Dear All, I've searched the whole forum and I haven't found any news about this, so I want to share with you this particular theme. During my usual searches to discover new informations on Queen, I came across this website and I discovered that Queen were scheduled to perform live on stage in the Great Hall at Oundle School (about 13.5 miles from Peterborough) on Sunday 7 October 1973; the concert was booked by the school's Rock Society but was cancelled at the last moment and never happened. There are no sure reasons for the cancellation; the website claims that Queen have decided not to perform due to the concert in Germany scheduled six days later (the one at The Undergorund Club in Bonn-Bad Godesberg on 13 October), but I can't understand how that can be a plausible motivation. Do you have any informations about this gig? Concert tickets were also printed, as you can see below: For further informations, I'm attaching the website where I found the source: theyplayedpeterborough.com/artists-m-r/

I got some clarifications from someone from the Oundle School archives: he said to me that a lot of rockbands played at Great Hall in the 1970s, including Genesis and Camel. Queen were booked to play soon after the release of their first LP, but suddenly got a better offer to support Mott the Hoople on a US tour. It seems very strange to me, because Mott The Hoople recruited them for their American tour only after the success of the UK tour in November-December 1973 - the tour started in Leeds on 12 November and ended with two concerts at Hammersmith Odeon on 14 December. I think the band preferred to perform in Germany on 13 October 1973 and canceled the Oundle School performance. The informations are not very enlightening.

I suspect that the archivist has added the word "american" where it does not belong.
As you say, the possibility of cancelling because of the UK mott tour is much more likely

I believe they cancelled Sunderland Locarno around the same time.

I believe they cancelled Sunderland Locarno around the same time. It seems that the concert at Locarno Ballroom in Sunderland on 12th October 1973 actually happened.

No mate, it never. It was cancelled. My home town. I know lads who went to the march '74 concert who lamented the '73 cancellation. March '74 was Queen's only Sunderland gig.

It is curious that the same day of the concert, announcements of the concert were published, such as the ones that can be seen on queenconcerts.com. However, it is true that there is no evidence that the concert has taken place, in those times traveling to play the next day in Germany could be complicated.

That night in march, when Queen played the locarno, I was blissfully unaware of their existence! Until a week or so later when SSOR charted.I was sitting watching telly half a mile away in Roker . A school pal of mine got into the dressing room that night and met them ! Their was a bit on fb recently about the gig and some who had went to the cancelled '73 show praising Ace, who were promoted to the main act.

Hi fellow makum...my hometown too. I can only remember the 74 gig, never got to go there my parents wouldn`t let me. I know the feeling. I was living on the Isle of Wight when Jimi Hendrix played there, but was too young to go. I've never particularly been a Hendrix fan, but it would have been nice to have been able to say I'd seen him.

I can remember seeing the poster for the 74 show on a wall at the end of Green terrace, and my mate said shall we go. As my parents thought it was a bad idea we didn`t go ...been regretting it ever since..should have went and faced the music after damn. Ah well parents know best(sometimes) Your friend was lucky to get into the dressing room, I think most of us would have killed for that now meeting Queen at a early point in their career.

It was some ramp to walk up to get there. Doubt I could manage it now.
