A quick skim through doesn't reveal anything new. A lot of the time he says he hasn't any more of an idea than anyone else what might be released and when. Of course, he wants to promote his book, but I think that would be of limited interest to those of us who are waiting for more unreleased audio / video material.

Wasn’t his book supposed to come out in 2004? I’m pretty sure I remember him mentioning it on QZ around the same time as his second printing of the live book. His book is like the bloody Queen anthologies…!

I can't say much about Greg. Only that I offered him an image of a poster of a 1974 concert for the book he is preparing that I am 99% sure that he does not have and he did not show much interest.

Here's the TL;DR - it's a reasonably interesting although ultimately unsatisfying interview. Hardcore Queen fans want to see archival releases, and QPL and their label are dragging their heels for reasons unbeknownst to the rest of us.
Personally - I fear that the good archival releases are going to be a thing of the past. Queen have been a commercial/singles band for 40 years, not an albums band, and the success of the biopic has taken them a further step away from that as they are now the biggest of all the old bands. Their label is going to want to cash in on that with greatest hits releases, not box sets with studio outtakes and concerts that 1-2% of their fanbase wants to hear.
Apart from BrƎИsꓘi 's comedy gold, this image may well be the only good thing to emerge from this thread:
It's truly incredible that we can see this (complete with Freddie's doodles on the top) and have the accompanying audio in all its uncut glory. As great as a Queen anthology would be, it'll be hard to top the fact that this - the 24-track master of one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed - has freely circulated for over a decade. As far as I'm concerned, this was the holy grail and anything beyond it is gravy.

Does anyone know how the archivist's hiring came about? It was initially a six-month contract to help move tapes from "their secret subterranean location to a new and even more secure base." The new base is at Brian’s estate - Greg gave it away on a previous Queen podcast then realised he’d given that into away and tried to gloss over it. It’s staggering that any company would continue to employ someone who has form for continually being horrifically rude and confrontational to its customers (prime example being when without any justification he called me a ‘c**t’ on QZ).

I really don't know why Greg Brooks and the band feel the need to be so secretive about what is and isn't in the 'vault' (if there is indeed a physical vault). At the end of the day, there is now so much unreleased material slipped out onto the Internet, a few unfinished Miracle tracks that we've all heard by now, and some other things that you'd think they'd have just gotten around to release official, better quality versions.
Put it in context, this is only a rock band. They had a huge career and were important in the history of rock. Had they stopped after "A Day At The Races" they'd still have been important, and their whole career has been influential on many rock bands and other acts that came after them. I think we know now that they're never going to release a chart busting album again, there isn't going to be a release that either affects what they did between 1970 and 1995, or affects their income significantly enough to improve their quality of life or that of their children's children's children.
I can understand wanting to protect your legacy as artists (and by being overprotective and rehashing the hits LPs etc again, they're actually spoiling it), but that legacy is really already made and I go back to the point about so much stuff appearing on bootlegs....
This stuff about the archive and the vault, it's getting quite boring. I'd have thought that by now they'd have released more of the important 1970s concerts and maybe even given us things like Hangman, all the versions of Keep Yourself Alive, I'd have at leat expected Hyde Park and Knebworth to have been released by now.
I'm starting to wonder if perhaps the vault is just not very interesting. Maybe someone blundered and they've lost a load of stuff, and they don't want to admit it. Tapes could have been incorrectly stored, things could have been pilfered, all that kind of thing, Brian could have pressed delete, Roger could have taped over the only existing copy of an important concert trying to catch some Formula 1 that he missed on tour in 1994 (joke) but you get the idea.
Maybe they should just admit that there's not going to be anything else, and that the record company just want easy selling products.

Since then I believe he snared a similar gig for Jeff Lynne, only to then fall out with him and leave that. speaks volumes, doesn't it. someone as clued up as Jeff realised quickly enough, what/who was best for the ELO archives - and what/who wasn't . only a cursory glance at the ELO official releases of rarities compared to QPL shows that one archive is being managed better than the other - a knowledge of what is there, and (more importantly) in what condition (is it fit for release). the presence or absence of one particular archivist may be the deciding factor. just putting it out there.

This ELO fan says the situation with ELO is actually pretty similar to that of Queen.

Maybe they should just admit that there's not going to be anything else, and that the record company just want easy selling products. Because they're all about the mystique surrounding the possibility that there could be more.
They know that people who post on forums like this don't butter their bread - especially since they've they've doubled the size of their fanbase in the last few years. That's who the new YouTube series is targeted to.
But they also don't want to completely give up on that small portion of hardcore fans who will buy the box sets, so they keep dangling the carrot.
Question is - how much longer will those fans even care (or be alive to enjoy it once things finally do come out) ?
For sure there is plenty in the archive. The outtakes disc on the NOTW box set is a pretty good indication of how many of their studio sessions exist. The tape was always rolling. But most of the older artists are keen to control the narrative and protective of their process, only wanting people to hear the final product. Again, mystique.

Sixty-fucking-three red white and blue American dollars?? No thank you!! 😅 Oh well, I was gonna buy it sooner or later so I thought might as well now while I have a coupon. Costs about the same as All The Songs on that store but I skipped that one since I already had your book 😁 Also, since there doesn't seem to be any other significant release for the 50th anyway...

On the Omnibus Press website for the book it states: Please forgive me if I’m missing something (or forgot about something due to my advancing age) but which 2020 box set is this referring to?

Likely the Miracle box set that never came out. It’s the attention to detail like that that makes me quiver in anticipation for this likely highly factual book…
EDIT: I should say that in Greg’s defense he likely wrote that blurb for himself (as authors are asked to do by their publisher) before knowing that the box set wouldn’t be released. Or maybe the book will contain images of a box set that will never see the light of day.

Thanks Georg. This book has been delayed so many times I wonder what the “newest” item in it will be.
I was looking forward to this back when it was first mentioned/announced, but now I can wait until I eventually find a copy at Half Price Books.

I honestly wonder why something like this hasn’t been also made interactive. Like a website or an e-book. Seems like it could be something that would benefit from a more immersive experience.
Ah well, asking for something like that would add another 20 years to the publishing date…

Lol. I always thought the Rare Share YouTube channel would be the perfect companion piece to this book. Shame it disappeared without a trace. Hopefully they’ll put all those videos back up once the book is out. But I rather doubt it happening.

I'm also surprised Brian didn't keep a copy as he seemed to hoard everything. Regards sorry, missed this. i'd say that the reason Brian didn't have a copy of the acetate is that "Hangman" was Freddie's song. Freddie obviously didn't feel it good enough for the LP, so it got binned.

Wasn't the FM box illustrated with single sleeves from Brian's collection, i.e he hoarded Freddie stuff too. That doesn't prove he'd have work in progress versions of Freddie songs, of course, but I wouldn't rule it out - besides, once an acetate is being pressed, they've recorded it as a group, so anybody might want to take a copy home to review.

While John Stuart did have an extensive collection and knowledge of Queen he wasn't all sweetness and light. I ran one of the first online Queen file sharing groups and John often shared stuff that he knew wasn't queen related at all but claimed it was. examples being the Others single which he insisted to the newbies had Brian on it when we repeatedly confirmed it did not. He also claimed that the single Versailles by the White Soxx was produced by Freddie when it was actually produced by a French artist Frederic Mercier.
This wasn't accidental it was deliberate and done by John "just for fun to see which fools believed it" - that's a direct quote by the way.
Without independent validation of the acetates existence I'm inclined to think he was pissing in the wind.
