Don’t know if anyone has seen the extensive extras on the Metallica box set announced today; alongside ‘Stone Cold Crazy’ from the Freddie tribute being on one of the audio CDs, some video footage stood out to me on one of the DVDs - ‘rehearsal day with Queen’.

The boxset looks amazing! Brian & Jim Beach please take note! I'm going to buy it.

Jesus, my head is spinning from all the content on this classic Metallica album. Now that is how you celebrate a landmark album. My dislike of Queen has now grown even more but on the other hand, we get Greatest Hits on cassette so it's all good...

This probably me fanboying again, but you can always count on Metallica to deliver the goods with their Super Deluxe box sets. It's only been 3 years since their last box set with And Justice For All, but it still gets a replay from me, especially the Seattle concert. Now that the Tushino Airfield concert's finally getting a vinyl release, I'm excited as all hell. Take notes, QPL. Metallica and George Harrison have been killing with their album's box set this year. My guess is the rehearsal footage is this, but who knows: It's supposed to be outtakes from the A Year And A Half in the Life of Metallica documentary, so it could be extra stuff not released.

I’m not a Metallica fan in the slightest and I would pay good money for this over anything QPL has put out in recent history. That does indeed include the newly announced Back to the Light reissue.

This is the point we now have reached: on this Queen forum we get WAY MORE ENTHUASTIC about the release of another band than the product announced by Brian May...
I feel incredibly let down by the Queen machine and they crushed my hopes for good products in the future.
I honestly can't be bothered anymore. There's so much good music in this world and wonderful artists who treat their fans well and offer great product for a reasonable price.
I really feel like it's over...
I felt so yesterday and I still feel this way after a night of good sleep!
I admire Brian May for many reasons but now I honestly ask myself: what is the difference between Brian and any other cash grabbing CEO of a multinational? There's little/no difference when you look at how Queen productions is led.
Very sad.

That looks like a great box set. Disregarding for a moment that it's full of Metallica, of course ;-P fcb101: "I admire Brian May for many reasons but now I honestly ask myself: what is the difference between Brian and any other cash grabbing CEO of a multinational? There's little/no difference when you look at how Queen productions is led." Brian May the musician - magnificent. Brian May the populariser of astrophysics - great. Brian May (c.s.) the businessman - despicable.

Hilariously, there are people complaining about that metallica release.
Too much vinyl Not enough vinyl Lack of surround sound content
You really can't please everybody!

I must admit I was wondering how much of it was quantity over quality. How many times would you listen to someone doodling over a riff? There's plenty of other content of interest, but I could imagine people not being happy about stuff being on vinyl and not CDs, and vice versa.

Only ONE lanyard? Seriously? They’re letting the long-time fans down.

As far as content vs. price, Metallica (and probably Tull and Crimson) are among the most impressive lately. I'm not a big spender at all and I gladly purchased this set. Can't wait to get it
Metallica generally seem very good with not overcharging, lol. For the amount of stuff included (90 percent unreleased, pretty much), the $250 I paid does not seem excessive.

Watched Some Kind of Monster again this weekend. I'm not world's biggest Metallica fan - but I love some of their more well-known works and the way they deal with their back-catalogue/their fans. I think they've been doing a 7" club for some years, these boxset releases are awesome, I think they've been putting out download-versions of pretty much all their shows etc.

Must be one of the most intriguing and unintentionally funny cringefest documentaries i have ever seen. That's stock!!! Can you guys imagine Brian and Roger sitting across each other pouting and calling the other disrespectful and throwing fits like a bunch of highschoolers? Tim Staffel joining halfway crying and telling Brian how much he hurt him by throwing him out and hiring Freddie? xD

So many cringe-moments. Phil handing James some lyrics, Lars with his constant gum-chewing, those horrible St Anger songs/jams. I think I've probably watched it 6 or 7 times already and it remains one of the best music documentaries I've ever seen.

Brian May (and QPL) think that there isn´t market to sell box sets and stuff like that. Many artists have released in 2020 (and 2021) box sets with interesting stuff and sold well.
I´m sure Brian is not blinded about this... Just don´t want to release that kind of stuff.
You Queen fans (sorry they lost me as "fan" years ago) will get unreleased stuff when Brian and Roger are gone. (The point is that some old fans won´t be here unfortunately to hear these things and others just don´t give a shit -like me- about it, because it will be late...Too late)

I agree, it seems good value. The only thing with a lot of these massive all encompassing box sets is that there's a lot of repetition, and I think that applies here.
