Greatest Hits III always seemed weird to me as it has solo tracks and this lame Wyclef Jean remix on it. It does not feel like a real "Greatest Hits" in my opinion.
The solo tracks became more known to non-Queen fans after Freddie died and the album came out under the name "Queen+". Therefore it somehow made sense to have them in the collection. Some songs were left out from Greatest Hits I and II and so I thought about a more representative tracklist as Queen still made many great songs that were "greatest-hits-worthy"
Starting with Queen's first and ending with their very last, sad song:
01 Keep Yourself Alive
02 The Show Must Go On (with Elton John) 03 Under Pressure (Rah Mix) 04 Somebody To Love (with George Michael) 05 Back Chat (Single Mix) [never been issued on CD as far as I know] 06 Las Palabras De Amor (The Words Of Love) 07 Thank God It's Christmas [to have this version on any album]
08 Pain Is So Close To Pleasure (Single Remix) [never been issued on CD as far as I know]
09 Princes Of The Universe 10 Scandal 11 These Are The Days Of Our Lives 12 Heaven For Everyone (Single Version) 13 Let Me Live 14 You Don't Fool Me 15 Too Much Love Will Kill You 16 A Winter's Tale 17 No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young)
What do you think about GH3?
Are you happy with the tracklist it came out with or is there another album / collection that you would change at all?

Still doesn't feel like 'Greatest Hits III'
The fact is any 'Greatest' hits album by anyone has to have great hits and the material just isn't there.

While this Greatest Hits may have introduced a wider audience to some of Freddie's, Brian's and Roger's solo work (though Roger's was reworked as a Queen song there) they should've left it at II.

I Actually like the Wicleaf Jean Mix. I would leave it in GH3. I Like your setlist but i change the order and he misses tie your mother down and spread your wings.

I had made a similar tracklist for my own GH3 compilation. But as mentioned above, there’s just not enough “hits” to make it a true and valid Greatest Hits compilation. Regardless, I made this. Warning: it has Q+PR on it.
1. Let Me In Your Heart Again 2. Tie Your Mother Down 3. Let Me Live 4. Scandal 5. Las Palabras De Amor 6. C-lebrity 7. Heaven For Everyone 8. Keep Yourself Alive 9. Princes Of The Universe 10. Under Pressure (Rah Mix) 11. Too Much Love Will Kill You 12. These Are The Days Of Our Lives 13. You Don’t Fool Me 14. Small 15. Say It’s Not True 16. A Winter’s Tale 17. No One But You
I like it. I never thought about Back Chat and Pain Is So Close To Pleasure.

Back Chat Single Mix was released in CD format mate. It's on CD 2, track 3 on the 2011 Hot Space reissue. The same applies to Pain Is So Close To Pleasure, Single Mix. This was released in CD format too. It's on CD 2, track 3 on the 2011 A Kind Of Magic reissue.

They should revise GH1 and GH2.
GH1 should stay as is, but add Under Pressure at the end of side 1. (Which is actually one official configuration).
GH2 - IMO should be revised as follows:
1. A Kind of Magic 2. Radio Ga Ga 3. I Want It All 4. Heaven For Everyone 5. I Want To Break Free
6. Innuendo 7. It's a Hard Life 8. Breakthru 9. Who Wants to Live Forever
10. Headlong 11. Too Much Love Will Kill You 12. The Miracle 13. I'm Going Slightly Mad
14. Hammer to Fall 15. These Are The Days Of Our Lives 16. The Show Must Go On 17. One Vision
Instead of TMLWKY - if they come up with interesting edit for Was It All Worth It - i'd use it. But in its present form, it ruins the flow of the compilation. As does Friends Will Be Friends and The Invisible Man which is why i think they should have been excluded in the first place. Same argument if You Don't Fool Me or Las Parablas was inserted.

For some reason, wrong proofreading, perhaps, most people write Las Parablas de Amor when it should be Las Palabras de Amor. My two cents here. As for my own Greatest Hits III, I would start by stating that there should have been no such thing. Not enough meterial, and the balance would rely inevitably on Made in Heaven. But just for the sake of it, here it goes. Criteria? Singles which had, at least, dented the top 40, somewhere or been released as a single. Then, the Queen way, rather than present the tracks chronologically, shuffle them so as to let them flow nicely.
1. Keep yourself alive 2. Liar 3. White Queen 4. Spread yoour wings 5. Mustapha 6. Need your loving tonight 7. Body language (I know, it was on an American Greatest Hits edition, but nowhere to be properly found on the regular GHI and II) 8. Thank God it's Christmas 9. Scandal 10. These are the days of our lives 11. Heaven for everyone 12. Let me live 13. Too much love will kill you 14. A winter's tale 15. No-one but you
As it is, the list doesn't even sound interesting. A few deep cuts scattered here and there might have added some colour to it (Stone cold crazy, '39, I'm in love with my car, Brighton Rock, Princes of the Universe, Las Palabras de Amor, Was it all worth it...), but it would have been a pointless, futile exercise. The solo tracks do not belong on a Queen compilation, really. and the versions? Well, Elton John's Show must go on is nice, but forgettable. A video is more than enough. Under Pressure Rah is interesting but can't seriously take any other track's place. It belongs in a Hot Space reissue. And the Wyclef Jean AOBTD thing is simply hideous.

Really good thread. I’ve always thought leaving Las Palabras off GHII was disappointing and I’d quite easily replace The Invisible Man with it. Of course the most shocking exclusion on GHIII was A Winter’s Tale - inexcusable. Gonna have a go at this, but leave a couple of the solo tracks on as they were big hits and don’t sound completely out of place:
1. Tie Your Mother Down 2. Heaven For Everyone 3. Somebody To Love (Q+GM) 4. Barcelona 5. Too Much Love Will Kill You 6. Spread Your Wings 7. I Was Born To Love You (MIH version) 8. Driven By You 9. Let Me Live 10. A Winter’s Tale 11. Living On My Own (NMB mix) 12. You Don’t Fool Me 13. Princes of the Universe 14. Scandal 15. These Are The Days of Our Lives 16. No One But You 17. Thank God It’s Christmas
Love Kills should probably have a place but I couldn’t find one. All were UK top 40 hits with the exception of POTU and IWBTLY, although they were singles elsewhere.

At 79 minutes The Show Must Go On [LP or a 'revised' version] Barcelona [LP version] Too Much Love Will Kill You Somebody To Love [FM Tribute] Heaven For Everyone [LP version] A Winter's Tale Las Pallabras de Amor (Words Of Love) Driven By You There Must Be More To Life Than This
Tie Your Mother Down Let Me Live The Great Pretender [remix] Princes Of The Universe Man On Fire No-One But You These Are The Days Of Our Lives Was It All Worth It Forever
In addition, I would also have offered a 'bonus disc' package with: Thank God It's Christmas, We Will Rock You [fast] * Spread Your Wings *, Stone Cold Crazy * Son And Daughter *
*from the upcoming 'BBC Sessions', to be released next year ...as part of the liner notes
I kept the same 'concept' as the original. TSMGO...well, they redid ICLWY, so why not this, to indicate the show 'will go on'. Also...GH II wasn't that readily available in the States (and I don't care for EJ's singing on this. This is the tracklist I've listened to for decades, and give to acquaintances. It would have been a much better send off.

I think this tracklist would be most accurate.
Tie Your Mother Down Las Palabras de Amor Liar Let Me Live Body Language You Don't Fool Me Heaven For Everyone Spread Your Wings Love Of My Live (Live Killers) Keep Yourself Alive Scandal Too Much Love Will Kill You A Winter's Tale Princes Of The Universe These Are The Days Of Our Lives No-One But You Thank God It's Christmas

My notes:
To start a compilation you need the biggest song from the period so I believe Heaven For Everyone might be the best choice. (GH1 had Bohemian Rhapsody and GH2 had A Kind Of Magic. Also, Heaven For Everyone and Too Much Love Will Kill You opened both Now 32 and Now 33 respectively so both known to be key songs at the time.) But I hate having a rocker after a slow track especially if the slow song is at the start of an album or vinyl side!
- I've included Somebody To Love because it was a number one and still gets regular plays on the radio today, often played more than the original.
- Also included is Thank God It's Christmas as a hidden track at the end!
- Finally if there was more space I would've included Stone Cold Crazy (because of the Metallica cover), I'm In Love With My Car (original b-side of Bohemian Rhapsody) and Is This The World We Created...? (perfomed at Live Aid).
01. Heaven For Everyone 02. Too Much Love Will Kill You 03. Keep Yourself Alive 04. Back Chat 05. Princes Of The Universe 06. Somebody To Love (Q+GM) 07. You Don't Fool Me 08. Body Language 09. Love Of My Life (Live Killers) 10. Tie Your Mother Down 11. Scandal 12. Let Me Live 13. Spread Your Wings 14. These Are The Days Of Our Lives 15. Las Palabras De Amor (The Words Of Love) 16. No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young) 17. A Winter's Tale *18. Thank God It's Christmas* [hidden track]

I was always really unimpressed with Greatest Hits III compared to I and II due to its inclusion of solo tracks, live versions and collaborations with other artists. I felt a definite third album of hits could've been made, with those that narrowly missed out on inclusion in GH I and II, as well as hits released post-1991. So here is my favoured track list for the album, feel free to share yours below I've tried to stick to UK hits mainly. 1) Tie Your Mother Down (standalone version) 2) You Don't Fool Me 3) Flick of the Wrist (standalone version) (reached #2 as a double A-side, so should've been on GH I!) 4) Body Language 5) Heaven for Everyone 6) Las Palabras de Amor (The Words of Love) 7) Too Much Love Will Kill You 8) Spread Your Wings 9) These Are the Days of Our Lives 10) Thank God It's Christmas 11) Scandal 12) A Winter's Tale 13) Let Me Live 14) No-One But You (Only the Good Die Young)

In 2014, I created this mix (and listen to it over the original GH III). It's very similar to yours:
Let Me In Your Heart Again Tie Your Mother Down Let Me Live Scandal Las Palabras de Amor Heaven For Everyone Keep Yourself Alive Princes of the Universe Under Pressure (Rah Mix) Body Language Too Much Love Will Kill You These Are The Days Of Our Lives You Don't Fool Me A Winter's Tale No One But You
I had put LMIYHA in as I thought it would chart well, guess I was wrong. I hadn't thought about Flick of the Wrist. And I guess, looking at some other hits from around the world, one could easily add:
Somebody To Love (Five Live) Need Your Loving Tonight One Year of Love Love of my Life (Live) Backchat Spread Your Wings Thank God It's Christmas

I'd keep solo stuff (because maybe inclusion on a Greatest hits compilation will get normal Queen fans to care about solo stuff, maybe? cause Queen solo is so underrated), but remove some of the Queen+ Stuff. I'd also include important omissions from the era's of GH1 and GH2.
Scandal Keep Yourself Alive Tenement Funster I'm in Love with My Car Teo Torriatte '39 All Dead All Dead It's a Beautiful Day March of the Black Queen Tie Your Mother Down Spread Your Wings Heaven for Everyone One Year of Love Princes of the Universe Pain is So Close to Pleasure Too Much Love will Kill You No One But You Driven By You Man on Fire (or some other Roger solo track) You Don't Fool Me Great Pretender Winter's Tale These are the Days of Our Lives Las Palabras De Amor Is This the World We Created

In my revisionist history, Greatest Hits III was released in 2001 – as it should have been, in keeping with tradition! – and runs as such (the Under Pressure rah mix was never released – sorry, it just reeked of product back in 1999):
1. Princes of the Universe 2. Tie Your Mother Down (single edit) 3. Heaven for Everyone (single edit) 4. Too Much Love Will Kill You 5. Las Palabras de Amor 6. Let Me Live 7. Spread Your Wings 8. Pain Is So Close to Pleasure (single mix) 9. Body Language 10. Back Chat (single mix) 11. You Don't Fool Me 12. Calling All Girls 13. Scandal 14. Thank God It's Christmas 15. A Winter's Tale 16. No-One But You 17. These Are the Days of Our Lives 18. Love of My Life (live) (bonus track)

That's a good track listing too. I really wish "Need Your Loving Tonight" had charted higher in North America (or was even released in the UK), as that is one of my fav Queen songs so I always try to sneak it into playlists. I had forgot about Pain Is So Close To Pleasure (the single mix is much better); same goes for Back Chat. Pain Is So Close To Pleasure actually charted in the Netherlands, but has been completely forgotten because it's not on any GH album, while tracks that never charted here but happened to be on a GH are played, some quite often. That bugs me... if only they would play PISCTP once on the radio again, but I think that will not happen.

I thought I remember posting a Greatest Hits III track list before and I found this old forum: queenchat.boards.net/thread/160/greatest-hits-iii-own-tracklistAnyway I'll share what I came up with again as I'm still happy with it! Additionally: - I've included Somebody To Love because it was a number one and still gets regular plays on the radio today, often played more than the original.
- I included is Thank God It's Christmas as a hidden track at the end!
- If there was more space I would've included Stone Cold Crazy (because of the Metallica cover), I'm In Love With My Car (original b-side of Bohemian Rhapsody) and Is This The World We Created...? (performed at Live Aid).

I thought I remember posting a Greatest Hits III track list before and I found this old forum: queenchat.boards.net/thread/160/greatest-hits-iii-own-tracklistAnyway I'll share what I came up with again as I'm still happy with it! Thank God It's Christmas* [hidden track] I've done it like this because to start a compilation you need the biggest song from the period so I believe Heaven For Everyone might be the best choice. (GH1 had Bohemian Rhapsody and GH2 had A Kind Of Magic. Also, Heaven For Everyone and Too Much Love Will Kill You opened both Now 32 and Now 33 respectively so both known to be key songs at the time.) My bad, didn't realise there was another thread. Nice track list! Out of interest, why the selection of KYA when it wasn't a 'hit'?

When I think of Greatest Hits I think of singles or any song which has had lots of exposure. I think now it's arguably more famous then some of their Top 20 or even Top 10 singles because it's often been played live and had lots of exposure in the Queen film.
