Hey team. this may be of interest - I recently got a copy of “Live Killers” with a unique cover. It was published by EMI In New Zealand in 1987. I had a copy in the 90’s, however one of the tapes melted in my car on a particularly hot day. lo and behold one popped up for sale over the weekend and it arrived today. I uploaded it to Discogs today. www.discogs.com/Queen-Live-Killers/release/19556653

are you sure that's not a pirate copy? seems odd that EMI would reissue a 1979 release with a Magic Tour cover image - especially when Live Magic had been released only a few months before. This would cause buyer confusion and potential for complaints/returns.

It seems to me I'd never seen this photo from Magic Tour before!

Maybe I'm missing something, but what would the point of interest be of a 40+ year old 8-track tape transferred to CD? As far as I can tell the tracklist is identical, no edits etc? Is it a sound-quality thing?

If we're honest, what's the point in any of this?

If we're honest, what's the point in any of this? A fair question ! Speaking of semi-official releases from NZ, there was a "Neil Young Greatest Hits" album released by Reprise Records in that general territory in 1985, Young (signed to Geffen at the time) didn't want it out because they used what he called "unauthorised edits" for some tracks, and Reprise pulled it from the market, apparently. So there is some precedent for this kind of thing. Discogs entry

(I've got 2 copies of Queen Live from 85, both on electra but with different labels) and wanted to release a live album. There's other releases in the series, but not documented all that well. www.discogs.com/The-Stranglers-The-Stranglers-Collection/release/16083157

From 1983 they changed to Capitol in the USA and EMI in Japan and Australia/NZ. They again changed in the USA in 1991 to Hollywood Records. In Europe they always were on EMI until they changed to Island in 2011. This didn't mean that Elektra couldn't release old material anymore after 1982 (which they did often enough, see the USA CD's in 1983, the Spun Gold singles, the 1985/6 edited live albums, etc.) , but the new label (EMI in this case) could release them as well as part of the back catalogue of Queen)

Rights are certainly weird, like Amazon buying MGM but getting Orion pictures back catalogue instead of MGMs.
