I think I've said all I wanted to say, but I'll be remembering Freddie today and definitely playing some Queen tracks.

He does have a certain look to him during that tour. I'm not sure if it is fear or fatigue, but something is off. I get the impression that he really had to work harder to be as energetic as on previous tours, but that could also be due to him reaching middle-age.
I only noticed this recently but in Budapest Freddie is already knackered just five songs in (Tear It Up). there's too much "hindsight" being falsely applied to what people think they're "seeing". Sorry, but it just isn't the case. I attended lots of gigs between 79 and 87 and both indoor and outdoor gigs the singers always looked hot, sticky, sweaty and knackered. those lights were hot and there was lots of running around. I remember seeing both Bowie and Elton live in 83 (similar ages to Freddie) and they both looked a bit "shagged out" too.

I wonder when the band themselves began to suspect? As they've told us, Freddie said something along the lines of, "look, you've probably figures out what I'm dealing with". By all accounts the band did indeed have a good idea and had for some time.

Fan since '75 my mum got me "Opera" for xmas...& grew up with them...so they've been in my life constantly & their music has helped through some tough times & made me happy in others & always kept me company, seen them many times...how I cried that night when Freddie passed. He was as others have said ' like a family member' to me, always missed & I shall be thinking of him even more so today. A true Legend. R.I.P Fred.

Can't remember what the occasion was (someone on here will know), but it was around early to mid 1989 where Roger mentioned in a radio interview that the band had plans of doing something special in front of a live audience upon the release of The Miracle. I know the interview you are talking about but I can't for the life of me place it. I suspect a few one off live appearances were probably planned, not a tour or anything like that but stuff like the Christmas fan club convention where John and Brian joined the cross was probably planned to have Freddie too, but by the end of 1988 Freddie was rapidly deteriorating. It was pretty much what Freddie was doing live wise up to that point, one off appearances here and there that could be cancelled if needed.

I was three when Freddie died, so it wasn't until years later that I discovered Queen. But I will definitely be marking today with some of Queen's greatest music.

I was exactly ten years old and didn't know about Queen or Freddie until only a few years later. It took me a while not to be sad that he passed away but to be thankful that he existed in the first place. Cheers!

I was 8 and we were living at my grandparents’ after my parents divorced. My mom was in her room working, and I was feeling sad about not living in our own house anymore, so my mom told me to sit with her while she worked. She had on VH-1 and they were reporting on the death of some strange looking man wearing star-shaped sunglasses, singing a song that my school friends and I sang all the time but didn’t know was a real song.
I asked my mom about this strange looking man, and she told me about this band called Queen. She told me what she could about them, then handed me a cassette of Hot Space and shooed me out of her room (I had likely tested her patience with all my questions). I remember looking at the tape, putting it in a drawer and forgetting about Queen until two years later… but that’s a story for another day…
Can’t believe it’s been 30 years. Fuck me.

I don't know what to say, I'm feeling a very complex set of emotions about this day. On one hand, it's a celebration of one of the greatest musicians in music history but on the other hand, it's the day that he died. Either way, I'm happy that he got to help make 2 more albums before he died (and one more posthumously) of that terrible disease, and that he got to live and make music in the first place

Each anniversary of his passing I just wonder on what more the group could of achieved if this awful situation hadn’t happened.
What new firsts? What new direction (if any)?

I think the more the years go on and the more brian and roger, mostly brian, are clinging onto the coat tails of freddie, the more out of love i fall with the band. I know they can do what they want, but its getting more cringy these days, the commercialisation of everything, the disney style film, the absolute tat they sell in the pop up shops and online, john had the right idea. Lets keep this about remembering Freddie, ok?

I started feeling very emotional reading all the social media posts this morning (particularly those written by Jim Jenkins and Jacky Smith). But I quickly reminded myself that today should instead be a day of celebration. Because I'm grateful that he was alive and left us with an incredible legacy second to none. He's one of the single biggest inspirations in my life.

I have a question that is kind of connected to this thread. I've been trying to work out what is written on Elton Johns hat: Aguis FM? Aguish? Aguis im?

Aguis im? it's possibly aguish - which roughly means - sickness caused by repeated suffering, usually to do with feverish conditions like malaria. but that cap looks more like a brand name than a statement.

30 years. Damn, feels like a lifetime, isn't it?
I wasn't around when it happened. I do remember as a kid watching the Tribute Concert for the 1st time wondering "who are all those people singing? Where's the singer?". That's when I found out he died (In my defense, I didn't know what "tribute" meant then. I was probably 6-7.)
As for me today, I've been blasting some Queen in the office. It's probably the best way to pay tribute, keeping his music alive.
