I was looking back at the setlist for Golders Green. Out of the 11 songs played only 5 were original Queen songs, not counting Procession as the intro tape.
I'm very aware of their play some old standard Rock n'Roll songs that everyone knows, at the end of the gig, especially during the early years. But isn't it odd that half the set is covers. Was there a lack of total believe in some of their abilities as song writers from certain quarters of the band at the time, or a lack of confidence in their ability to play some songs.
Surly given a live broadcast most bands would be excited to play and show off their compositions rather than rely on covers so much.

If you consider the lengths of the songs, it does not seem to be as much of an issue.
The Rock n' Roll medley's 5 songs total less than 9 minutes, whereas the 5 Queen songs are about 30 minutes total.

Agreed. It's not "11 songs" if you consider one of them to be "rock and roll medley"

But at the same time they used up valuable time to play covers. in those nine minutes they could have played two more originals or one more plus a shorter Rn'R medley.

per ... The Gospel According to Bob ... queenlive.ca ...
The following ignored songs were "apparently" played in earlier Queen concerts:
Keep Yourself Alive Doing All Right Great King Rat The Night Comes Down Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll
Jesus Stone Cold Crazy Hangman

You do get that they were a pretty much unknown band at the time, getting a bit of a break with a show broadcast on radio, right? They weren't the stars they would become years later. Most of the radio audience would not know any of their songs, and be completely indifferent to hearing one more or one fewer 'original'. By playing familiar material in their own way, they met the audience half way. In fact, I'm surprised they didn't choose to play *fewer* originals for a radio gig.

Yes, of course I understand that they were virtually unknown at the time, and I understand the idea of playing familiar material. However as a new band with a new album to promote I would have thought, as I’ve said, using the time to play their own songs would have been better.
As a new band they could have given the impression that covers were a major part of what they did. Or even given a confused impression going from the songs they wrote to old R n’R.
