i have a little suggestion/correction. maybe don't use the word "overdub" when something has "just" been pitch-corrected or flown-in from another night. Something being overdubbed implies that it was rerecorded in the studio. Also, some of the backing vocals may not have been overdubbed, but merely properly mixed (some were definitely overdubbed, but some i wouldn't be so sure about). Not necessarily - "overdub" is an all-encompassing term in studio recording where one thing is recorded on top of another. It has nothing do with whether it's studio takes or concerts they're working on.
But indeed, if it's just a matter of pitch correction or mixing, then of course that isn't an overdub.

yep. anything that wasn't part of the original recording source is an overdub. "flown-in" is the perfect description of overdub.

But indeed, if it's just a matter of pitch correction or mixing, then of course that isn't an overdub. Just wanted to say that not all edits that I pointed out are considered like overdubs by me. There are obviously other edits like pitch-correction, mixing edits etc... I'm just going by the rules established by Chin for his videos. Also I try to listen to as much audio recordings as I can (ranging from soundboards, audience recordings etc...), and if there are vocals that are unheard on the unofficial material I've listened to, I usually assume that vocals may have been taken from another concert and/or overdubbed. Sadly, since there's no way I can be 100% correct because of having no way (like basically all of us) to listen to concert multi-tracks, I can only do assumptions. Also sorry if it looks like I'm writing a book, as I wanted to clarify some things, if they weren't clear enough. I still hope that you like what you're seeing so far, and are looking forward to what I have in store. - Works Of Magic

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to give you a quick update on how things are going. So far, I still didn't restart work on the video, but I wanted to tell you that I have taken the decision to split the video in two parts, because, knowing the amount of edits to point out, the video would probably last more than an hour (probably more between an 1h 30 min and 2h00), so here's what you can expect:
Part One: Everything you've seen in the previews, until 2nd Wembley.
Part Two: Budapest all the way to Knebworth, with Live Aid as a bonus.
I hope you're all looking forward to what I have in store.
Stay tuned, and wish me luck!

Nice! I personally think Live Aid should just be part of the first video, since it's in-between the Works and the Magic eras

Nice! I personally think Live Aid should just be part of the first video, since it's in-between the Works and the Magic eras I guess you're right. Then again, I was just giving a rough idea of how the videos were gonna go. I might put Live Aid at the end of part 1, since I insist on having it as a sort of bonus, in the same way Chin included the Boh Rhap movie tracks last for the Live Killers video.

I enjoyed the Live Magic analysis in the first post. One of my favourite live albums. I know I'm in the minority there. Anyway, an observation: The audience singing bit in AOBTD might be the only instance in the Queendom of something actually being in tune on the audience recording and out of tune on the final album

Hello everyone!
Just wanted to tell you that I'm now on holidays for about two weeks, which means I'll have more time to work on the videos. Also sorry if I wasn't active lately, as I had exams these last few days, which kind of prevented me from working on video editing, like, at all. So hopefully I can bring you more previews during the next two weeks.
Stay tuned!

Hello everyone!
I just wanted to tell you that tonight, I'll be continuing work for part 1. Hopefully I'll be able to make great progress. I'll continue work where I left of starting with 1st Wembley's Guitar Solo, so if anyone of you wonderful people have found overdubs, patches and pitch-correction, that aren't documented from this track and the others after, feel free to send replies so that I can implement them, as it would make progress a lot quicker, and that would mean releasing a preview to you a lot quicker too.
Stay tuned!

Hello everyone!
I wanted to tell you that progress on the analysis for 1st Wembley is going smoothly. I can't tell you when I will release a new preview, but in worst case scenario, expect a release at the end of next week.
I wish I could share more details to you guys, but that's all I can share so,
Wish me luck, and stay tuned!

Hey! I would mention in your video that the vocoders have been lowered in the official mix (most notably WATC in Mannheim, I'm not sure about Wembley, Budapest and Knebworth). Doesn't need to be a whole thing, just a little sentence would probably be enough, so the whole thing doesn't get too long

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've posted anything here, hasn't it? Just wanted to share you all a bit of an update regarding the video. Originally, I wanted this video to analyze the Works and Magic Tour official releases, but since Chin had his video on Rio, Yoyogi and Live Aid ready to be uploaded, before getting his two copyright claims on his channel, which lead the the privatization of all his videos, I decided to rework the video to only focus on the Magic Tour. Furthermore, I've also decided, in order to keep the video available for as long as possible, to split the videos in two parts. I even made thumbnails for each of them. First part will feature Mannheim, Newcastle and both Wembley nights.
And finally, the second part will feature Budapest and Knebworth.
That's all I have to say for now. Hope to share you more updates in the coming months.

Great to hear some news on it! The funny thing is, just today I randomly remembered this project and thought to myself "when are we getting some news on that?" Anyways, I'm really looking foward to it!

Also, one thing I forgot to mention. All my notes made for these videos will (currently are actually) be given to Chin before he eventually starts work on the Magic Tour part(s) of Live vs Overdubs. Why, you may ask? The answer is simple actually. After helping him out like I did, I thought it was only appropriate to give him a starting point for a video of his own, the same way I had indirect and direct help from some of you over the years to gather some information as a starting point for these videos.
Furthermore, regarding the videos themselves, progress on the video editing side of things has been rather slow, as I've put most of the focus on writing down notes. So, I'd say depending on if the 1986, 1990, 2003 and 2011 mixes don't have too many differences in the mix or in cuts, the note writing process for part 1 is about 50-70% complete. In regards to part 2, the note writing process is about maybe 40-50% complete, all thanks to Blane Anderson's now taken down analysis of Live Magic.
So yeah, I'm gonna go at my own pace, and I'll try my best to give you all a video you can enjoy, while we wait for both Chin's YouTube channel to come back and hopefully stay for good on the platform, and for Chin to upload his L vs. O videos.
Now I can officially say that's all I have to say for now.
Hope to share you some more interesting news in the coming weeks or, most likely months.

Hi everyone, I'm back, this time with a tiny update regarding the videos.
I have decided to restart editing on the first part from scratch, as I've decided, for the sake of bringing the highest quality video possible, to gather some lossless quality material to use for the videos. Chinwonder has been kind enough to share me his Laserdisc transfers for Budapest and 2nd Wembley along with the Russian theatrical copy of the former concert. I'll also be using my own transfers for the DVD, CD, and Blu-Ray sources needed for the videos.
Also, for Budapest's 16 Cameras/Soundboard source, I've decided to collab with Blane Anderson. Using CMI's cleanup, he'll provide an edit that will be as close as possible to what was present in the official release, without the repeating segments shown from different angles, for whenever I'll show the source for comparison with the overdubbed/pitch-corrected segments.
Anyways, that's all I have to share for now. Hopefully I have bigger stuff to share throughout the Christmas holidays.
Stay tuned!

funny, I was just thinking about this and my question is this; when were the overdubs for Wembley and Budapest recorded? Does anyone know / have any proof of when it happened?

Would they not have just been taken from other tour recordings? no idea! perhaps? any educated guess as to what gigs? imo, some of the Wembley show sounds like studio overdbubs, but I'd be deligheted if they are flown in from other gigs. That means more gigs must be available in the archive

Is there any evidence of them going into the studio between the end of the Magic tour and the start of The Miracle sessions?

funny, I was just thinking about this and my question is this; when were the overdubs for Wembley and Budapest recorded? Does anyone know / have any proof of when it happened? Well, from my knowledge, they were recorded in between September and November 1986, for Live Magic's release. It's not impossible to think they may have recorded most if not all vocal and instrumental overdubs at that time, as some of them have been present since this release. Plus, Freddie's tone on these overdubs is so similar to what would be present on the Wembley laserdisc released four years later, that it would be crazy if the overdubs for the at the time new songs from Wembley were recorded after the Live Magic sessions.

They did the remix/re-recording of Pain/Pleasure after the tour, and I believe they were in the studio working on the album over three days in November. I can’t remember if Brian said anything else about being in the studio in one of his fan club letters, so I might be forgetting something, but there were definitely a few sessions after the Magic tour.

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I shared any updates on here, hasn't it?
There's been a few reasons on why I've been inactive. The two main ones are that life has been keeping me rather busy, making me unable to make much progress on anything, and that, at the start of this year, I've been hit real hard by depression, so I had to go on a break, delaying progress even further.
So now that I'm starting to feel better, I wanted to share good and bad news.
The bad news is that I'm currently putting the videos on hold, as I have exams to take care of, and I don't want too many personal projects to distract me, so I'm sorry if this dissappoints a few of you. But let me tell you, it'll be worth it in the long run.
The good news on the other hand is that I've officially collabed with Chinwonder2 on the new Live vs. Overdubs episode. I will be providing the thumbnail for the video, along with the notes I've been using to work on these videos. I'll also be double-checking his notes to see if there's anything to add or correct. It's a great honour to get to work with a member of the community like him, so I hope you look forward to future updates, because they are coming. And potentially sooner than you might think.
With that said, I hope everyone has a great day, afternoon, or night. Bye!

Good work so far, looking forward to seeing the full version.
I do have one pedantic issue to raise. At points in the part 1 preview 2 (e.g. 3:08), the text refers to “2012 mix - Magic Years Documentary”. I presume this either means one of the 3 VHS “Magic Years” documentaries from the late 1980s, or the 2012 documentary “A Magic Year” (singular) from the Budapest Blu-ray (presumably also on the DVD)?

Yeah, it’s the ‘A Magic Year’ documentary from the 2012 release alongside Hungarian Rhapsody.

Yeah, this was corrected at some point on my project file when I got the Hungarian Rhapsody Blu-Ray last year. It's just that I didn't update much since then that could be worthy for a 3rd preview.
