Hello everyone, For the last few weeks, I've been working on a big project, inspired by Chinwonder2's "Live vs. Overdubs" concept. The objective for this project is to point out every single overdub and pitch-corrected segment of official releases from the Works to Magic Tour period. These official releases can be from live albums, bonus tracks, etc... So far, I've been able to put a small preview together, that you can watch here:
Since this video is still very unfinished, I have shared my observations in a document that you'll be able to download from the video's description. Also, for Knebworth's analysis, and I don't remember if I featured it on my document, I have used Blane Anderson's analysis on the Live Magic album, which you can watch here: Also, if there is any overdub or pitch-correction I missed in both the W.I.P. cut of the video or the document, feel free to point it out, as it would greatly speed up the process of making this video. P.S.: By the way, this is the fourth or fifth video I've edited, so any feedback from the editing side of things will also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for giving an answer! I've actually written down most of the overdubs you've noticed, but there are some I might have to check out again, just to have the confirmation that they truly are overdubs. Also sorry, if it isn't easy to understand what I say, as english isn't my first language.

Also sorry, if it isn't easy to understand what I say, as english isn't my first language. Okay, so after looking at your notes and after listening to Wembley '86's album again, I've updated the document I shared in the video, and added IWTBF's "God knows I want to" overdub. I'll probably update the document again, because I'll have to check Live Magic and see if there aren't any other overdubs there, in Hammer To Fall specifically.

It's still great to know that I'm not the only person that tries/tried to point out all of these overdubs. This 1st draft will probably help when I analyze the other songs that may or may not have overdubs.

So far, it seems promising. The only thing that should be changed is that the 'I did it for looooooove' part was probably overdubbed, because on the official release audio, not only is Freddie sharp, his voice is also very raspy, whereas on the official release, it's practically perfect. Someone else is also in the background giving back-up vocals (I think it's Roger, but I'm not sure)

But then again, I don't have access to software like Melodyne, so it'd be impossible for me to have a concrete answer to it. Also, I do think that's Roger overdubbing those vocals, like you were probably thinking. Thanks for reviewing what I've worked on so far by the way.

Update: I'm working on a second preview of the video, it'll probably have the first half of Wembley 11/07's analysis, alongside updates for the Rock in Rio analysis. Progress is going to slow down a bit, since I'll be busy with other things.
Stay tuned!
P.S.: By the way if you have found any overdubs on any of the concerts from the document linked below, feel free to add them:

For all video releases for Budapest, a complete verse was cut out but is included on the 2012 CD. On video releases, the guitar solo follows right after the first verse (or chorus, depending on who you ask) instead of the second verse (or first verse, if you assume that before that is the chorus).

Update 2: Hello again!
I have started work on the 2nd preview a few hours ago. So far, things are going pretty smoothly, and I'm finishing work on the first half of the analysis that I've written on the document that I've shared, a few messages earlier.
Also, I'd need help on pointing out the overdubs, patches, and pitch-correction made for Wembley 11/07, so if you detect any of them, feel free to mention them. And please, to avoid repeats, please check out the document, and see what has been pointed out already.
By the way, I'd like to thank everyone that has checked out this thread, as I didn't expect it to get this much attention in such short amount of time, so thank you very much!

I was actually gonna write what you pointed out at one point, and forgot about for a while. Thanks for reminding me of this cut on the video releases, by the way.

Great work guys, nice to see I’ve inspired other people to do similar work and opened people’s eyes to QPL’s bad practices.
Can’t wait to see what you all come up with, I’ll obviously have my own videos as well, but until then. These are good! My next will be Milton Keynes and I hope to start that soon.

I only have one editing suggestion, and it would be to make it so the individual singing lines are played immediately side by side instead of playing two long chunks of a recording with multiple fixes.
For example, for 7/11/1986 play the undubbed "there's only one direction" line and then IMMEDIATELY cut to the dubbed version of the same line with no other bits inbetween.
This way, if the single line is played immediately one after another, you'll have an easier time getting skeptics to hear the (sometimes) highly noticeable difference a bit easier. And if you've ever read the comments section on any video talking about the overdubs, or Freddie being anything but a GOD OF SINGING--you'll know what I mean by skeptics lol. And some people just genuinely cannot hear a difference so they need to have it spelled out a bit more.
That said--excellent work and I look forward to more! This kind of thing always fascinates me.

i have a little suggestion/correction. maybe don't use the word "overdub" when something has "just" been pitch-corrected or flown-in from another night. Something being overdubbed implies that it was rerecorded in the studio. Also, some of the backing vocals may not have been overdubbed, but merely properly mixed (some were definitely overdubbed, but some i wouldn't be so sure about).
Also, a mistake was wholesale edited out of Brian's guitar solo spot at 1st Wembley.
Oh and this is not a correction or criticism or anything you don't know, but the overdubs on 2nd Wembley are poorly mixed, period. They didn't even attempt to match the EQ. It's so obvious when the brighter, drier studio vocals take over, it's kinda funny.

I wish you good luck for when you'll start work on Milton Keynes, by the way. Thank you again, for being such a great source of inspiration.

Hello everyone.
I have a short update to bring to your attention, Progress on the video will be much slower, as I'll be going back to school this week.
But don't worry, because I'm almost done with Wembley 11/07's first half of the analysis. I'm only missing Brian's guitar solo segment and Now I'm Here.
In best case scenario, I'll probably be able to upload the 2nd preview by the end of the week, and in worst case scenario, by the end of next week.
Wish me luck!

Thank you for your efforts so far! This must be a monumental task. Look forward to the final product 🙌 It sure is a monumental task, but thanks to many people's past attempts, I already had a great starting point for this project. I hope I won't disappoint when the final product will be out, as I always worry about the quality of my work, no matter how big or small it may be.

Update: The second preview of the video is almost done, and will come either tonight or tomorrow. I sadly can't tell when exactly I'll upload it, as editing this takes a lot of time and patience for me. I hope you are looking forward to it when it's done.
Stay tuned,

Tiny update: Hey guys, sorry if I was absent these last few days.
I'd like to tell you I will take a break from working on the video, as it gives me a bit of pressure with all of the other projects that I'm planning for the future. So sorry if I don't bring good news for this project.
I'll still work on it, don't think otherwise, but I won't be putting it in the top priority of projects to finish for a while.
I still am looking forward to what you wonderful people!
See you all soon!
