OK, a 'list' thread (spits) with a difference. While we're all in the post Christmas lull, something to do I suppose. I'd like people to choose their fave Queen album from 74-80 SOLELY by the singles taken from it and included on Greatest Hits (1981) - the UK edition. So for those in doubt, this works as follows Queen II - Seven Seas of Rhye SHA - Killer Queen, Now I'm Here ANATO - Bohemian Rhapsody, You're My Best Friend ADATR - Somebody To Love, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy NOTW - We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions Jazz - Fat Bottomed Girls, Bicycle Race, Don't Stop Me Now The Game - Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Save Me, Play The Game, Another One Bites The Dust Flash Gordon - Flash OK so there is disparity in terms of number of singles per album, but that's the deal. And I've left Queen off, obviously. Now, think carefully (and don't bother criticising the poll because it's just for fun). AND SAY SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR CHOICE IF YOU VOTE, thanks, as cold lists/polls are deadly boring. Which album makes the 'Greatest' contribution to Greatest Hits? Which album's song(s) on Greatest Hits 1 float your boat the most? If you heard GH1 before the albums, which album could you not wait to get based on its (hit) singles? Answer according to whatever criteria you like. But tell us about your choice.. You may mock, but for a long time my favourite song on GH1 was Seven Seas of Rhye.

I chose SHA; it's my favourite Queen album but I did consider it's 2 tracks above against the offerings from all of the other Queen albums that are on GH. I voted as I did because I consider both KQ and NIH to be quite well known Queen songs despite having come before Bohemian Rhapsody, their big breakthrough.
As it's widely known, the North American issue of GH has a different track listing to the UK edition, therefore it might be interesting if another poll were created for the NA GH. One potential issue with that is people might confuse the 2 polls with each other.

I chose ADATR because those two singles are among my favourite Queen tracks. At the time, I thought The Millionaire Waltz would have been a good single, as it was 'segmented', in a similar way to Bohemian Rhapsody, but I guess they would have been accused of repeating themselves.

Man this is tough. I almost can't even come up with an answer. But I did go with A Day at the Races. Both Somebody To Love and Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy are solid 10/10s. Jazz would be a very close second though!!

Jazz, because Fat Bottomed Girls and Bicycle Race are fun, but mostly for Don't Stop Me Now that is my favourite.

I agree that The Millionaire Waltz would have been a good single, excepting the possibility they would have been accused of repeating themselves; I've always considered TMW superior to Bohemian Rhapsody.
With 4 tracks on GH, it's not much surprise that The Game is in the lead but as the OP stated, that's the deal.

I chose Jazz, as I think the band chosed their singles perfectly for that album (especially Don't Stop Me Now, a personal favourite of mine since quite some time, and Fat Bottomed Girls). But I'd say The Game is also a close second here!

I'm leaning towards Jazz myself. I think it's because those three tracks are sequenced so close together, they feel like the 'heart' of the complilation for me. And with only You're My Best Friend separating them, you have a sequence of relatively similar sounding tracks.
Also Bicycle Race is almost a distillation of the 70s Queen sound, tons of vocals, multi tracked guitars, humour, eccentricity and unusual production touches.
I was tempted to vote ADATR too. Which is odd since I overall prefer the other 74-80 albums to these two.

The Game for me. Some very solid hits come off that album. Play The Game has always done it for me. Great production.

Jazz, no question. If Tie Your Mother Down or Spread Your Wings had been on there, it would've been Races or World, but those three songs from Jazz are played/famous just enough that they'll slip out of my consciousness but when I hear them again I'm always pleasantly surprised.

I think The Game is a brilliant album and had many strong tracks that could have been released as singles (such as "Rock It")."Crazy" and "AOBTD" are great songs, but my favourite single is "Save Me".

I voted Jazz.
My second choice would be The Game and third would be A Day at the Races.

It's The Game for me..... CLTCL and Save Me being the two tracks why this album gets my vote. Would be interesting to do this the other way around: strip all the GH-tracks and see what's left.
