Gary Barlow does a series on BBC Radio 2 where every episode he talks to a famous songwriter about their career and most popular songs. Paul McCartney, Jeff Lynne, Sting and Christine McVie are some of the names I can think of at the top of my head. Brian May hasn't been 100% confirmed yet but he gets a mention on the programme website: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000d6vyI think Gary and Brian are friends or at least on good terms seeing they did a cover together of The Beatles' Get Back during the lockdown: youtu.be/2MtaBKxTYaoNo doubt that We Will Rock You, Who Wants To Live Forever (Gary's favourite Queen song) and The Show Must Go On will feature. But maybe Fat Bottomed Girls, Save Me, Hammer To Fall and Too Much Love Will Kill You may all get a mention. '39 could too as it's a song very close to Brian's heart. What does everyone else think?

It will be an interesting listen if it materialises. I'd be disappointed if Good Company didn't get a mention.

Tie Your Mother Down "written in 1970 in Tenerife, Freddie said keep the title" 39 "science fiction, time dilation, 100 years" Sleeping On The Sidewalk "wrote in 15 minutes" WWRY "audience participation " White Queen "the moon" TMLWKY "therapy"

In fairness, May does try to claim a co-write of Bo Rhap in the movie of the same name, when the producer in the film told ‘May’ to “….play it like you wrote it!” and ‘May’ responded that he did write it and the referred to the solo. I know it’s only a film, but that segment always annoyed me.

I know it’s only a film, but that segment always annoyed me. Indicating that he composed a 20 second solo doesn't mean he's trying to right some kind of wrong. In Queen the person who wrote the lyrics got the songwriting credit, and they've always been very transparent about this. And whenever Brian has stated he wrote the BoRhap solo in interviews or documentaries, he's always immediately deferred to Mercury saying he wrote the rest.
Showing up here for the first time in six months to slag off a band member isn't the best of looks, for the record.

Fat bottomed girls recorded in about 74, every concert except live aid filmed in the same hall, RTB being reduced to a cliche... My point is that the absolute last thing that film is, is a documentary.

Thanks for the warm welcome back. I’m not sure how you concluded that I was slagging off a member of the band. For the record, your response isn’t the best of looks either.

We don't need yet another "I love artist X but here's what's wrong with them as a person based on my speculations" thread on the internet.
That goes for you too, pg. The reason why artists tend to tell the same few dozen stories once they're in legacy mode is because they're their best stories - especially ones people will be able to relate to.

I understand the reasons why they do, but if we're not allowed to hope for something different, then all those pre-release threads for Outsider, BTTL, AW and The Miracle should have been shut down.

Of course the discussions should and will flow freely. Just sometimes they can flirt dangerously with character assassination.

And you thought that was what I was doing? Brian has seldom spoken of how he wrote White Queen. If you're not interested in hearing a new variation of that and are using that as a wedge point against him, are you sure you're really a Queen fan?
To me it's just troubling to see people who are supposedly fans of artists who have more negative things to say about them than positive. Of course, be critical - but it's a matter of balance and fairness.

To clarify then... my point was I'd hope to hear something new (about any song), alongside the inevitable populist "greatest hits"-esque repetition (which I agree is to be expected).

Is White Queen about the moon? I never knew that but it does make sense.

This was fairly disappointing, the only things which were really talked about was the Red Special, Bohemian Rhapsody, Live Aid, The Show Must Go On and Another World.
My Fairy King and The Prophet's Song got their names mentioned. One of the best things was The Night Comes Down got played albeit not mentioned.
So half the songs played weren't even Brian songs: Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga and Don't Stop Me Now.
What I found really odd was that We Will Rock You only got mentioned by Gary in his introduction to Brian.
