Hi everybody. I would like to share with you an article entitled 'I Queen aiutano Madre Teresa' (translated as 'Queen help Mother Teresa'), extracted from the Italian newspaper La Stampa on Wednesday 27 March 1996. Below is a translation from Italian to English and an image of the article (in Italian). Fight against AIDS
Queen help Mother Teresa
LONDON. Solidarity for those who suffer through music. Queen have decided to help Mother Teresa of Calcutta in the fight against AIDS. The British rock band, which lost its leader Freddie Mercury to this terrible disease, will support a project to send tons of medicines and medical equipment to help the Albanian nun fighting AIDS in India. Medical supplies worth a total of about 2.5 billion lire will be sent by the Mercury Phoenix Trust: this is the largest shipment of medicines ever made by air. The drummer of the group, Roger Taylor, and the manager Jim Beach will leave London Stansted airport on Sunday, fly to Calcutta with the load and see in person the work of Mother Teresa and her missionaries of charity, always at the forefront of the solidarity field. Mother Teresa has already opened a hospital in Bombay to treat AIDS patients (it is called "Asha Deen Aids") and is planning a second one in the city of Calcutta to help the more than one and a half million HIV-positive Indians infected with the HIV virus in India. The Mercury Phoenix Trust was established in memory of the leader, who passed away in 1991 for AIDS. The cargo offered by Queen will carry five tons of medicines that will be distributed in the hospitals and clinics of Calcutta.
