Speaking of which, do we know what happend to JSS' Queen Collection? Was it auctioned, someone inherited it? According to his family, his collection is still sitting at his home, untouched. They have no intentions to sell it and are aware of its value. Regarding the Hangman studio version... From what I recall, based on a comment made by John, is that Brian doesn't want it to be released either due to the topic covered by the song or certain lyrics which are in at least the studio version on John's acetate. It also supposedly exists as a 2 track stereo master mix in the vault.

Lots of info in this thread regarding the existence of a studio version, haha.
It is safe to assume it exists in the vaults, both as several takes or demos. Pretty sure too that Brian and Roger will not release it willingly.
High quality live versions certainly exist as well, but at this point I would be surprised to see it included in an album.

I once heard from a source close to the band that they demoed it circa 1974/75, but abandoned it as they considered it derivative. They played it on stage just a few more times and shelved it for good. It's curious as to why they continued to play it live on occasions, right up until 1976(?), if they didn't like the song. It wasn't as if they were short of other material to play by that point. Why not just abandon it like they did the studio recording? Maybe the lyrics were changed when they did it live? I too have always found it perplexing why they kept playing a song live that no fan could go and listen to on record and is, quite frankly, not a particularly memorable song. It’s funny, everything surrounding the song makes it mysterious and enigmatic, but not the actual song itself.

It is safe to assume it exists in the vaults, both as several takes or demos. It is? Based on what? The only statements one way or the other have been Greg saying QPL don't have it, and John Stuart implying that HE did. All I've seen is speculation, wishes and possibilities.

(Yes, I understand about concerts driving album sales, but that's only been part of the deal for a small proportion of the music industry. It wasn't true for classical composers and it isn't true now, particularly)
