OK so we're all bored of Greatest Hits. Yes fine, we get it, you don't like the endless re-releases, you didn't buy the coloured cassette editions, you're tired of hearing it everywhere when Queen has so many great tracks that no one ever plays on the radio.
Alright. You are Jim Beach, or Ray Foster or whoever. Somehow you lock Queen into a contract that means you get final say about which singles get released from which album, and they are NOT the ones the band chose. So Queen Greatest Hits looks very, very different. It's probably called "The best of Queen" for one thing, as most of the singles barely troubled the Top Twenty. It also means they have remained a cult band in 1981 and one who inexplicably never released their best album tracks as singles, but that's what you asked for, so deal with it.
The point is that, with a band of this quality, it should be a piece of cake - cake, I tell you - to programme an alternative GH1, one that will FINALLY convince all the haters and unbelievers and other infidels that Queen are a great band 'if you listen to the albums'.
Bear in mind this is NOT just 'list your fave non album songs' - it's really about building an album that works in its own right. Song choice is obviously key but sequencing is absolutely vital! How does the record flow? Does one track lead into another? Is all the very 'best' stuff evenly spread?
I've deliberately gone for the same number of 'singles' per studio album, 8 tracks on Side One and then 9 on Side Two, as with GH, although this clearly indicates that Ray Foster had lost his marbles in 1980 by insisting on releasing the four singles from The Game, but anyway. If you really have to have 9 tracks on side one and 8 on Side Two, or you strongly feel another album offers three or four better alt singles than Jazz and The Game, then go for it even though this is cheating. But please, 17 tracks, and at least one song per album from Queen II through to Flash Gordon.
So that's your task. I look forward to your choices. Good luck. I'm going to cheat by going first and then I can accuse everyone of stealing my ideas.

Interesting idea for a thread. I’ll play, but I’ll put them in corresponding order as on Greatest Hits:
Death On Two Legs Dragon Attack Stone Cold Crazy Mustapha Dead On Time I’m In Love With My Car If You Can’t Beat Them Sail Away Sweet Sister - Rock It (prime jive) Tie Your Mother Down Flick of the Wrist The Millionaire Waltz Need Your Loving Tonight The Hero The March of the Black Queen It’s Late My Melancholy Blues

Liar The March of the Black Queen ... Queen had a brief foray into the top 40 in the UK hitting #39 with the Mercury penned Liar. Their follow-up single, The March of the Black Queen bombed, and the Queen II album was slagged by the British press. Disillusioned, Brian felt Queen had no future and joined Sparks upon their invitation. Roger followed suit by joining Genesis ... ... The End ... This is why I do not get to choose singles. LOL www.nova.ie/brian-may-roger-taylor-on-how-they-almost-quit-queen-202948/
However, If Queen somehow survived my bad judgement ...
Liar The March of the Black Queen Stone Cold Crazy Brighton Rock
'39 Good Company The Millionaire Waltz You and I You Take My Breath Away
Sheer Heart Attack All Dead, All Dead In Only Seven Days Dreamer's Ball
Rock It (Prime Jive) Dragon Attack Don't Try Suicide Football Fight

Doing it OP's way, using same amount of singles from each album that the actual GH used:
The March Of The Black Queen Death On Two Legs Flick Of The Wrist If You Can't Beat Them '39 Long Away Sail Away Sweet Sister My Melancholy Blues
The Hero Rock It Let Me Entertain You Need Your Loving Tonight Dreamer's Ball Teo Torriatte It's Late Coming Soon In The Lap Of The Gods (Revisited)
Doing it Georg's way, i.e in the order that GH used the singles:
Death On Two Legs Need Your Loving Tonight Flick Of The Wrist Let Me Entertain You If You Can't Beat Them '39 Dreamer's Ball Coming Soon
Rock It Long Away In The Lap Of The Gods (Revisited) Teo Torriatte Sail Away Sweet Sister The Hero March Of The Black Queen It's Late My Melancholy Blues
And finally, doing it my own way, using at least one track from Queen to The Game, and having it in a running order I think flows:
Great King Rat The March Of The Black Queen Death On Two Legs Flick Of The Wrist Long Away It's Late If You Can't Beat Them Need Your Loving Tonight
Rock It The Hero The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke Love Of My Life My Melancholy Blues Dreamer's Ball Coming Soon My Fairy King In The Lap Of The Gods (Revisited)
I think those are fairly different to each of the choices so far, each are very different to each other and each in their own right would make nice standalone albums.

For mine, I’m going to change it up. Since I live in Canada and listened to the Queen Greatest Hits Canadian version, it’s slightly different:
1. It had a track from Queen I (Keep Yourself Alive) 2. It was 14 tracks long 3. I can’t use any Canadian released singles, but I’ll use other singles that were released elsewhere that did not make it onto GH.
Here goes:
1. Death On Two Legs 2. You and I 3. Let Me Entertain You 4. Stone Cold Crazy 5. Liar 6. Sail Away Sweet Sister 7. ‘39
1. Dead on Time 2. Dancer 3. Dragon Attack 4. Spread Your Wings 5. White Queen 6. The Hero 7. Teo Torriatte
1 from Queen, 1 from Queen II, 1 from SHA, 2 from ANATO, 2 from ADATR, 1 from NOTW, 2 from Jazz, 2 from TG, 1 from Flash, 1 from HS.

my idea is not really a greatest hits but a thematic collection, a hypothetical concept (obviously remastered and remixed, not 100% normalized as the latest versions):
Procession Great King Rat Ogre Battle The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke The March of the Black Queen White Queen (As It Began) My Fairy King The Prophet’s Song Lily of the Valley In the Lap of the Gods
with a bonus CD with “styled track”:
Bring Back That Leroy Brown The Millionaire Waltz Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon Seaside Rendezvous Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy Good Company Who Needs You ‘39 Sleeping on the Sidewalk Man on the Prowl All God's People

following the georg "natural running order" Weird, but [for me] a listing like this appears to completely changes the song-writing dynamic compared to the original writing credits: Perhaps it also reflects whose songs the "older" me prefers to listen to. Mine: Roger 5½, Freddie 5½, Brian 4, John 2 Original: Freddie 10, Brian 5, John 2, Roger 0

Dang, I tried to edit my Canadian version post above, but can't. Must have waited too long.
Anyways, in addition to the Canadian copy of Alternate GH, here is what the UK/Europe version would look like:
UK Version:
1. Death On Two Legs 2. You and I 3. Stone Cold Crazy 4. Sail Away Sweet Sister 5. I'm In Love With My Car 6. Need Your Loving Tonight 7. Love of My Life (Live) 8. Dead on Time
1. Let Me Entertain You 2. Dancer 3. Dragon Attack 4. Jealousy 5. It's Late 6. '39 7. The Hero (Revisited) 8. White Queen 9. Teo Torriatte
Canadian Version:
1. Death On Two Legs 2. You and I 3. Let Me Entertain You 4. Stone Cold Crazy 5. Liar 6. Sail Away Sweet Sister 7. ‘39
1. Dead on Time 2. Dancer 3. Dragon Attack 4. Spread Your Wings 5. White Queen 6. The Hero (Revisited) 7. Teo Torriatte

I was bored on the train from Leeds so I revised my alternate album. I think the whole band would approve as all of them get songwriting credits now unlike the 1981 album.
Side A: 1) The Hero 2) Tie Your Mother Down 3) Stone Cold Crazy 4) Sleeping On The Sidewalk 5) Dead On Time
6) The Prophet's Song 7) Dragon Attack 8) '39 9) White Queen (As It Began)
Side B: 10) Father To Son 11) All Dead, All Dead 12) Long Away 13) Sail Away Sweet Sister
14) Brighton Rock 15) Keep Yourself Alive 16) It's Late 17) Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)

You said all the band would get songwriting credits but I can't see any in that track listing written by Taylor or Deacon. In fact, the majority of them seem to be Brian's songs.

I was taking the piss 😂, I deliberately tried to think of all Brian songs apart from one where he still credited 25%!
