Greetings friends ! I have a radio show called "Bollocks with Bob" on Wednesday nights at 8pm (eastern standard time), and this week's show will be on Roger Taylor's solo career.
The show can be heard live at montcoradio.com, and after the fact as a podcast at bollockswithbob.com. The theme of my show is reexamining things that have been misunderstood throughout music history, so I generally don't play the most well-known pieces. Have a listen to last week's McCartney show to see where I'm generally heading with this concept. With that as a prologue, what Roger tunes would you want me to spin and speak about !?
Hope you can all tune in !

I’ve been listening to a lot of Roger’s stuff lately, so here’s a few: Magic Is Loose, I Cry For You, Cowboys and Indians, Old Men, Life Changes (he didn’t write it, so that might not fly; if not, then Also Rans), Revelation, Where Are You Now, Up, I Know I Know I Know

Good luck with it, Bob. 👍 Must admit, I've always fancied doing a radio show.

I’ve always loved “Feel the Force” and wondered why it only appeared in the North American LP.
I also love “Small” - both the QPR and Roger version. I’ve always wondered if this was written for QPR and then re-worked as a solo song, or vice versa.

Good luck Bob, can’t wait to hear the show! Without thinking too much: Abandonfire, KillingTime, Final Destination (the version with Yoshiki) and The Whisperers.

It's really hard to pick songs from Strange Frontier, as every single one of them is solid !

Wow, Bob, your show is really interesting to listen to - here's hoping sometime soon you are to take over the real FM air, still even on the internet radio your storytelling sounds absolutely fabulous and intersesting, thanks so much for a good hour of Roger's solo stuff - personally in my opinion Roger's solo works are the best in Queen Solo Family, and definitely my favourite ones, so this was a true joy, - thank you and all the very best of luck and success in your new upcoming episodes

Today a friend told me I have an NPR voice, and another said I should be on Sirius XM. I'm going to take the temperature and see what's out there.

Thanks Bob - an enjoyable listen. Nice to know I’m not the only person who thinks Roger is an extraordinarily underestimated musician, composer, arranger and vocalist.
Hearing the tracks alone rather than in the context of the albums made me listen extra carefully to them and enjoy them in a new way. Thank you
Ps - anyone else ever wondered if Pressure On was another song (along with at least one of John’s Queen contributions) moaning about Brian?? A discussion for another thread perhaps….

I was able to listen to the show this morning and enjoyed it very much! Especially the “I Wanna Testify” section and the comparison with the “original” version. Congrats Bob! Roger’solo work has always been my favorite and the only thing I’ve missed was an extra hour to make room for more songs! 😄

Never thought of that, but indeed anything is possible. But as far as I know, they were on much better terms by the late '90s than they were a few years earlier.
So glad you enjoyed it !!

Thanks to anderssteen whom I'm pretty sure was the first in the Queen community to track down the Persuasions' version. It looks like he showed up here only to point this out and poof, was never seen again.

Congratulations on the great show! Me and a fellow Brazilian fan followed it live and chatting online about it. We had a great time.
Excellent song choices and you also did great as a presenter! Thanks a lot!
Cheers,

What a great hour - loved your insights and connecting the dots to contemporaneous events and to the rest of the band. Nice song selection!
I also listened to the Sir Paul show and it’s made me want to listen to more of his solo career - I really only know what I’ve heard on the radio.
I’m looking forward to future episodes.

Bob, I believe you are a fellow Lord Elgin guy, this is great stuff, congrats! And, the "special moments only tend to happen now and then" is likely my favourite Queen solo section ever so happy to hear it recognized.

Chaos and Creation in the Backyard is so bloody outstanding - definitely make that your first stop.
And points for using the word "contemporaneous" in a sentence.

I'm finally getting around to this, Bob, and what a superb episode – excellent choices all around. I've been going through a bit of a RT kick lately, so this is just perfect timing all around. I'm sure my cats – and neighbors, at that – enjoyed me singing along (poorly) at full-throated volume and power!

I listened today Bob and what a great episode. Like last week, fantastic song choices. Loved the backstory on I Wanna Testify and what a gem Foreign Sand is.
Congrats and the voice is spot on for a 1:00am FM DJ in the 1970’s. That’s when they played the best music!

It was tough to fit everything into one hour. I even used a couple single versions to make room for another song. Is It Me? was on the short list, but I went with Pressure On instead because I needed an upbeat song amidst the ballads.
On that note - man, do I ever have an appreciation for the process now. It's not just being a radio show host - it's being a writer, producer, fact checker, and recording engineer. No wonder cats like Malcolm Gladwell and Michael Lewis have entire teams they do their podcasts with. It's an enormous amount of work. And even if I quit after two episodes, I'm really happy with how this has gone.
Thanks everyone for being so wonderfully supportive.

Hi Bob, I enjoyed listening to your show when driving back from work this afternoon! It was a fun listen and a great introduction to Roger's solo career. As if I didn't know already, but man does that guy have an impressive solo output! It was a shame you had to omit a few wonderful tracks, but I think you had all the essentials.
I might give the McCartney episode a spin later this week. Being quite familiar with the Beatles' repertoire, I have to confess I never dove very deeply in their solo efforts.

Brian shared it now. Time spent posting on FB is time taken away from finishing the Miracle box set. /s
Completely kidding of course. Dude this was such a great podcast, really enjoyable and knowledgeable! Reignited my love for Electric Fire. <3
