I'd love to hear what the final Breakthru vocals with the backing track with real drums and bass sounds like. Although the vocals do sound complete it does seem hard to get used to as they are different to the well-known version. It probably won't work as it's got a completely different structure. Not possible to do the whole song because of the key change, but I ripped some stems off YouTube and gave it a go just for fun:

Wait, where does this mix of Stone Cold Crazy from Rainbow come from? It's definitely not the 2014 mix, there's no pitch correction. Can anyone confirm whether or not there are any overdubs?

No, it's just the short edits of the album mixes. We’ve been through this already. I already explained about the tape either earlier in this thread or in another Miracle boxset thread… Indeed, it's a pointless extra. What we wanted was the rough mixes tape, but the boxset is all about polished content. That said, although I did like some of the new versions (I've got yet to listen to them properly), it's weird to have polished outtakes. The concept is kind of an oxymoron. I felt like this with the NOTW tracks, although I enjoyed them regardless.

I think both Stone Cold Crazy and My Melancholy Blues are the same mixes as on the original The Miracle 12" single.

Oh, I didn't realize they used the live versions as a B-side back then, thought they were just on the boxset as a nod to live fans.

Hopefully we won't get My Melancholy Blues from Houston concert for the third time in a raw inside the next Collector's Edition box set

Anyone detect any autotune yet? I've listen through a few times and if there is autotune on the main sessions (the first 11 tracks) then it's been used well as nothing obviously sounds autotuned. That said there probably is some here and there because that's the age we live in, but having multiple takes to choose from probably helps reduce the need for it. I think Face It Alone is the worst, They probably only had two takes of an adlibbed first verse (Heard overlapping in the Demo from years ago), and a later attempt where Freddie constructed a chorus, So they've used a tonne of autotune to "fix it" into a song.

First impression of the raw sessions:
Party - needs more cowbell! The Miracle - It's a mess, but this version reminds me even more of I Am The Walrus. I Want It All - that jam in the beginning is like a bastard son of Bring Back That Leroy Brown and Hang On In There. Funny, but seems out of place here. Breakthru - This one brought the widest smile on my face! WIAWI - Heavy and raw. Really like this one!
YKYBTM- Beautiful! A real surprice. I get Justin Hayward vibes out of this one (which isn't necessarile a bad thing). I wonder why Brian never finished this one.

Yes, but the rough mixes tape was not - in spite of the close similarities to the edit points made in the songs - the same one that was on the Teaser Tape issued with the press release kit, and the point was to replicate what was on that tape. THAT being said, speaking of the rough mixes I'll point out here that I'm almost 100% certain the Rough Mix of Scandal on this boxset is the very same one used for the edit that appeared on the first Capitol Records executive tape. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWcJ7sLJsuk

Completely no connection to the Miracle album, what is the point of adding it to the Miracle Box release, I wonder... ?

Come to think of it, I forgot "Rare" Live was released in '89. Funnily enough, I do remember it had IWIA on the intro.

I think it stands out worse on FIA, but that's just me. Thankfully it's not one of the main session tracks.

Does anyone agree that the bootleg version of Dog With A Bone is way better than the released version? Roger sounds worse on the new version as well, no idea how they managed that.

Considering that there are other Queen albums that have not been given the box set rarities treatment yet, is it fair to say that there are other gems left to unearth and release? It’s possible. We don’t really know until we go back in there. I wouldn’t have predicted that we would have had as much unreleased material around “The Miracle,” as it turned out. I’m guessing we’ll find many more hidden treasures, yeah.

What the hell has the archivist been doing for the last +20 years ?
Picking fights with the more discerning fans out there?

Another note of disappointment: The Teaser Tape CD is somewhat pointless. It may even be LESS interesting than the original tape (didn't that have alternative mixes?). If you don't want it, I'd happily buy the pack from you. What was it, £25 more than just the box?

What the hell has the archivist been doing for the last +20 years ? I guess there's always the chance that he's not as important as he seems to think he is, and may not have access to all the archives? There's also the possibility that QPL know full well there's other stuff, but all the while they can carry on milking the fans with re-re-re-re-releases, without making any effort, they'll carry on doing so. Hopefully the fact that other artists and bands have released much more comprehensive editions of historical works, may give them the kick up the arse that they need. I would certainly like to think that we will get more more if The Miracle box sells well.

A numbered limited edition The Miracle picture disc was also made available for pre-order at the same time as the box set, but 10 days later it's not sold out. I find this surprising, because I think Flash Gordon was the last one, in January 2021, and its 1980 copies sold out within minutes. All of the other recent picture discs sold out quickly, too (Never Boring, The Game, Jazz etc.). So what's going on with this one? I guess it's hard to compare since we don't know how many copies of The Miracle were made, but chances are it's 1989 copies, based on what they've done with other releases. Brian's recent solo picture discs had runs of 3000 and 2500, though, so could they have gone with a higher run? Over 5 weeks later and the picture disc is still in stock, and now we know it's a limited edition of 4000 copies. So it might take mere minutes to sell 2000 copies but much longer for the next 2000. Is the post-movie buzz wearing off, or is the market for Queen collectibles simply not as big as I thought?

I suspect that an awful lot of the archive is documented now, it's just that Brian hasn't been made aware of all of it. The Argumentivist has said many times that he just puts forward package ideas, with some content notes, and meetings consist of yes / no / maybe, plus "what was that thing we saw before" which brings a previous "no" back onto the table. There could be a studio version of Hangman, for example, that is on some tape that hasn't been fully listened to yet because nobody has ever (or probably will ever) say "right, the time is right for the non-moustache, non-hit first album to get a dedicated box". Add to that, anything Brian says in this context is marketing, and therefore would be entirely unreliable from anyone, even before we overlay the QPL factor.

It's a shame they didn't include an outtake or early version of Too Much Love Will Kill You on the box set.
I guess that they didn't include demos or alternative verisons of the B-Sides because they were never really finished. They probably didn't have as much attention as songs on the album did. Stealin' was an edited jam, Hijack My Heart was pretty much all Roger instrumentation so probably always sounded like how it did (think Fight From The Inside) and My Life Has Been Saved might've always sounded like how it did. The version on Made In Heaven is a remix so there might not have been much else in the archive to create a new version.
Only Hang On In There sounds like it might've had a lot of work but I think Brian has said before of how spontaneous it is so there might have not been much else that differs to the finished version. You get the feeling that Hang On In There may have been inspired from I Guess We're Falling Out so that might have been why they didn't include the former on the box set...

Yes, it's a shame they didn't include Fiddly Jam, as that part of Hang On In There was definately developed as a part of IGWFO. It's a jigsaw puzzle, but it would have been a nice addition. HOIT is definately one of the better B-sides. Personally, I prefer it to many of the songs that ended up on the album.
