Has anyone ever done a definitive timeline??
Am I right in saying: it was just Morgan Fisher then Spike? Or did Fred Mandel do any gigs with them too? Also, were the one-off 2 nights in Montreal for the film shoot the last gigs before adding the 5th member live? Was Morgan Fisher in place from the first gig of the Hot Space tour?
Thanks in advance!!

Morgan Fisher was the first fifth live member and played with them on all shows of the European Hot Space Tour, so from Gothenburg on April 9th, 1982 until Milton Keynes on June 5th.
Unfortunately, they noticed that it didn't really work out for both parties so they chose someone else for the rest of the tour: Fred Mandel who played on every show of the North American and Japanese Leg of the Hot Space Tour.
Afterwards, despite Fred playing some synths on The Works album, they chose to go with another live musician for the upcoming tour and as usually, they found one at the last minute: Spike Edney who has been playing since the first gig of the Works Tour until now.
And yes, the two Montreal shows in 1981 are indeed Queen's last shows as a four men band

Fred Mandel wasn’t available for The Works tour (I do believe they asked him) as he was going on tour with Elton John (and stayed with him for six years).

We still missing him in the EJ band...But he decided in 1990 to take a rest and Davey Johnstone chose Marc Taylor instead.
To come back to the topic.
Fred was (is) a terrific player....The live version of CLTCL on Rare Lives proves that. Incredible jam on piano

Yeah, Fred Mandel is awesome. I prefer most of his stuff over Morgan in 1982, like him imitating the studio horns in Staying Power sounds actually really good. Too bad, Freddie doesn't on most of them

Funny to think that Staying Power live had synth bass (Morgan/Fred) while John was playing guitar. (I thought it was very effective vs. the studio version)

I heard Fred Mandel telling a story of when he first started working for the band. He suggested to Freddie that he might have to change his name, as having two Freds in the band could be problematic. I’m sure it was that type of humour that would have endeared him to the band.
