While researching Queen-related material, I came across something totally new to me: I knew there was an album by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra playing classics from the Queen repertoire. What I didn't know is that the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, along with the Royal Choral Society, held a benefit concert to raise funds for leukemia research; the event was held on December 8th, 1981 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The magazines Music & Video Week and Record Mirror of November 21st, 1981 both dedicated a few lines to this event: As this article indicates, in 1982 an album was released by EMI entitled The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Louis Clark, The Royal Choral Society Plays The Queen Collection, containing some of the band's most famous pieces up to that period, such as 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'Love Of My Life, 'You're My Best Friend' and more recently 'Flash' and 'Under Pressure'.
Is there also a video of the performance in question (as indicated in the first article)? But above all, is there a possibility that members of Queen were present at the event or have somehow supervised the project? Over the years I don't think I've ever heard Freddie, Brian, Roger or John refer to this event.
I apologize in advance if this topic has already been covered in another thread before.

This was indeed released on vinyl and cassette shortly afterwards. It was re-released on CD in the early nineties several times. There also was a VHS released, I've seen it in the shops once, but didn't buy it, so I can't tell any more about it.

Yeah, I think this is a reissue from the late 80s-early 90s. Teo Toriatte was on the vinyl though.

It's unlikely the band attended – they were in Munich as of December 6th, continuing work on Hot Space by that point.

Hmm, I need to check which CD version my parents have when I go there next time. We went through their entire CD collection just a couple of months ago when they were getting rid of some old furniture (which ended up at my place ), and I noticed not only this but ABBA and The Beatles played by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as well.

The 1992 reissue was indeed released in a three-part set, consisting of Queen, Abba and the Beatles, all released seperately but also as box if I remember well.

Some versions are not that bad, some others are quite dull... expect some serious re-arranging for some tracks and some dull re-instrumentation for others.
