Hi everyone.
Freddie in particular reveals some details on the current tour: he states that the band is about to play a few more concerts in the UK (thus suggesting that the interview was actually held at the end of June 1986) and that he will dedicate himself to Japan in the next months.
Below is a scan of the original article (with attached photos taken in Leiden) and the English translation. Enjoy the reading!
Today I post an article originally published in Holland in Joepie magazine on August 3rd, 1986, a few days away from the end of Queen's European tour. Entitled FREDDIE MERCURY laat zich kronen (translated as FREDDIE MERCURY is crowned), it is an interview held by Freddie during the Magic Tour, probably on the occasion of the concerts in Leiden in June 1986. In these lines, various themes are addressed, such as for example Queen's latest LP (which is titled by the author of the article as "One Vision"), the current tour, Queen's parting rumors and new music on the way.

FREDDIE MERCURY is crowned
"How Do You Like My Crown"
"How Do You Like My Crown"
Freddie Mercury's question is almost lost in deafening cheers. Stately, the Queen chief strides to the center of the stage. For the finale of this dazzling show, he has adorned himself with a mink coat and crown. It couldn't be more symbolic, Mercury literally and figuratively crowns 15 years of hit work. Queen celebrates the anniversary of a career that is far from over.
Fines reward Queen. The hit machine has been making its way through for 15 years popland and won't stop for the time being. Although it is becoming increasingly difficult to surpass the previous sales record, the new “One Vision” LP is well on its way to becoming the biggest Queen success of all time. The completely sold-out European tour proves that hundreds of thousands of Queen fans are still eager to see a concert by their idols. It is therefore a cheerful and remarkably fit Freddie Mercury who we find behind the scenes of the gigantic Queen stage. "It's a great kick to be able to play to sold-out halls again night after night", grins Freddie with satisfaction. "As an artist, that is the greatest reward you can get for your creative achievements. They already sing along with certain songs from One Vision. Every time I see them empathize with our music, a warm feeling goes through me. During the concert, rock and roll becomes pure emotion. Both for them and for me."
This gigantic tour immediately puts an end to the numerous split rumors about Queen. Freddie still clearly places the group above a solo career. "Yes, of course", agrees Freddie. "We all have our own projects, but if there is a choice, Queen is ready for everything. For example, I am eager to work out some ideas of my own and also regularly release a solo-single. Ah, those creative activities invariably ensure the necessary rumours. However much you may claim that there is no question of a split, there are always people who think they know better and send false messages into the world". The repertoire you play during this tour spans 15 years of hit successes. At the end of the show, crown yourself and dig the masas like a true monarch.
Is that a symbolic act or just an idle joke?

"A bit of both, I think," grins Freddie. "After all, I am terribly vain and like to pull off stage stunts. On the other hand, you could say that I am indeed crowning 15 years of Queen with this. With this "One Vision" project we are closing a penode. The boys and I are turning a page in our lives. What comes next is not immediately clear. I can tell you that I have already written a few new things with Brian that sound very surprising. But that is future music for now. First we'll finish a few more UK concerts and then tour extensively in Japan. After all, we've tested the patience of our Asian fans for far too long. You see, Queen's empire is huge". It seems that the crown and the long mink coat you wear on stage are just props. "No," says Freddie emphatically. "They are exact copies of the tool that Napoleon wore during his coronation. He also put the crown on his own head at the time. That is precisely why I thought it would be fun to do that again in the original clothing. Every evening I feel a little bit of Napoleon and I must admit I like it!"
