Queen guitarist Brian May predicts that his friend Sam Ryder is set for "almost unendurable fame."May took to Instagram to salute the UK's 2022 Eurovision star for his acclaimed performance on the BBC's New Year's Eve celebration concert in London which includes cameos from The Darkness' Justin Hawkins, former Spice Girl Mel C, and Norwegian pop star Sigrid. Posting a video of Ryder taking from the crowd, May wrote: "Our buddy Sam Ryder totally smashing it on the (our old!) New Year spot. That was a tour de force, Sam. And you trading guitar licks as well as vocal licks with virtuoso pal Justin Hawkins blew me away. And your album is GREAT ! Welcome to almost unendurable fame !!! Happy New Year, folks. Bri". www.loudersound.com/news/queens-brian-may-says-eurovision-hero-sam-ryder-is-set-for-almost-unendurable-fameI still haven't made my mind up about Sam Ryder. He's a good singer, but perhaps a better performer, if a little hyper! He also seems to be a pretty competent guitarist, but, to me, he doesn't seem to have found his 'niche' as an artist and needs to be careful he doesn't end up as a cabaret type star - unless, of course, that's what he's aiming for. If there was any ever suggestion of it, could he potentially fit in with Queen? Comparing him with AL, I do still think Adam is the stronger all round vocalist, and was outstanding on the recent tour.

Adam is probably the best fit for the long term and the remainder of their live career. That said, Sam is stellar and I hope they do more together! Roger had the eye on him to play "Somebody To Love".

Ryder wasn't a match for Adam (or indeed, Freddie) when he did the Queen medley at the show on New Year's Eve, but to be fair, it was a big gig, and he probably didn't want to strain his voice.
I thought he actually did a really good show, and covered a wide variety of artists and genres.

Gawd knows why. I don't rate him that much. That said, Lambert was AWFUL when he started, especially those dreadful warbles at the end of WATC, but he's improved no end.

Is this the same guy that predicted big things for King's Daughters just before they imploded?
Or the guy that said Dappy was a creative force just as he started sliding into obscurity?
Just asking....

Just asking.... Exactly this! Once Brian works with someone he loses all sense of proportion and common sense and objectivity. I caught his Queen medley and bits of the rest on catch up….it’s all a bit ‘Butlins’ / karaoke / pantomime isn’t it?!! Vocally he’s ok compared to other pop acts, but he’s not a patch on Adam and anyone who thinks he is is tone deaf. The performance of the Queen stuff also lacked any emotion or passion (band and singing), everything was rushed, and poorly put together as a medley (oh, and the BBC sound mixing was absolutely awful as usual) 😬 Sam seems a lovely bloke and I wish him well for his moment of fame, but he needs to learn some stage craft (poor mic technique, turning his back on the audience whilst talking, speaking too quickly) if he wants to be up with ‘the big boys’.
