I came across this short interview with Brian, John and Bill Wyman. Probably having had a couple of drinks, this is the first and only time I've seen John actually at ease and having fun during an interview. Great to see.

Holy shit that’s more than a couple – Deakey is blitzed! I couldn’t really make out what he was saying though. I’m surprised he didn’t have a cigarette of his own (he always seems to have one whenever he's not holding his bass) and bummed a hit from Bill Wyman… unless it was a different kind of cigarette, cough cough…

Deaky is not blitzed nor flying.. they've probably all had a drink, but it's a social do.! He's clowning around, when Wyman makes reference to Ian Botham's recent arrest for Marijuana possession, Deaky does an exaggerated 'toke' with Wyman's cigarette.
Subject matter is sort of interesting. I do like these little off-guard glimpses when the boys are more relaxed.. whether music should be overtly 'political' or allied to social causes was evidently a big deal at the time. Pretty astounded aboout Wyman's idea that famine struck communities of tens of thousands should just 'move out of the desert'.. ivory tower much, Bill?

Yeah, rock stars in decades past usually weren't beacons of worldly wisdom. At least Billy Joel had the common sense to quit releasing original music by the mid-'90s, on the grounds that he'd lost touch with the lifestyles of most people. |
