The thread title might seem a bit confusing for some because why would it be? This topic caught the attention of "The Queen Discord" thanks to our dear friend Gregsynthbootlegs who was confused about Freddie's speech before Need Your Loving Tonight: "It's nice to be back here in good old Oakland after about two years, isn't it?" This doesn't sound like something he would say to greet an audience for the second time in a row but actually for the first time since 1978! Also, nowhere else is any comment about a previous night to be found, no comparison (aka "You've been much better than last night") or a question a la "Who was here yesterday?", things that would often occur at the second night at the same venue. This alone would be suspicious but not enough evidence to question the dating of a recording, right? I agree, so I got something that almost confirms a switch up has been made! This review, clearly from the first night as the second night is mentioned right at the beginning of the article, has two speeches written down by Mercury (the one for Fat Bottomed Girls and Crazy) and BOTH match up almost EXACTLY with what is present on our recording! Here the words like "tits" and "asses" have been omitted for obvious reasons, but... But this speech matches 100%, even the wording "this instrument" and added "I didn't know either" are stated in the review. I think all of this combined basically confirms that our recording comes from the first night at the Oakland Arena Coliseum!

You pose a solid argument.
But it's still possible that Freddie just didn't mention the first night, as by then it was pretty common for them to play 2 or 3 nights at the larger venues.
And it's definitely possible that he said the same thing two nights in a row before Fat Bottomed Girls. In 1977 he threw out the "next time we'll come back with an orchestra" line nearly every night after the acoustic set.
I also remember the odd trading list back in the 1990s and early aughts stating this tape to be from 7/13, so you may well be right. But methinks another recording from one of the two dates will have to pop up before we can confirm it for absolute certain.

I understand the concern about not jumping to conclusions but I think this is pretty safe. Freddie had dropped the "same speech at every show" bit after the Races Tour. Of course there would be similarities but his stage banter was way freer from the NOTW Tour onwards and by 1980 Freddie was quite relaxed with it and him using the exact same wordings in front of BOTH songs would be too much of a coincidence for me personally.
Additionally, Brian states before Love of My Life "It's nice to be back in the San Francisco area again. It's been quite a while, hasn't it?", again making not mentioning any previous show and wording it like it is their return after two years. Now combined with the show being listed as the 13th back in the 90s, this is as much proof as we could get without receiving a new recording.

The review's transcription of Freddie's banter before Crazy Little Thing Called Love is identical to the tape too. 7/13/80 it is. I'll change up the databases as necessary. Well done !

Good stuff!!! Definitely think you're right. Was wondering about this too, not for the actual speeches matching up, but the setlist. They rarely ever played the exact same setlist for multiple nights at the same venue during this time period. Something like Rock It would've surely taken the place of FBG or STL for one of the nights...

He said they did Rock It there too.
