I was at a record fair yesterday in The Netherlands and i noticed some weird stuff going on. At one booth the guy had a shitload of Queen singles with "fanmade" sleeves with prices around €40,-. I couldn't check what the discs looked like, as these singles were sealed. The singles have a picture of the band or a member from around the time the single came out or a picture from the videoshoot. The back in mostly black with the songtitles and "Made for fans" or something like that on the bottom. My theory is that these are the original discs with custom-made sleeves to bamboozle ignorant/new fans.
I've also seen a lot of copies of GHIII and Queen Rocks on vinyl with glossy new sleeves + seal. These are bootlegs. I've made a mistake buying some a few years ago. There are a lot of these going around, also for other artists.

Fan made/home made covers have been around for at least 10 years - many were spanish to begin with and then Mexican.
Biggest bootleggers for vinyl appear to be the italians...
On the one hand, if you're a serious collector of official releases, then the bootlegs of Wembley, GHIII & Rocks are the Devil's work, but for those people who just want them to play, they are a God-send.
QPL could easily reduce sales and high prices of these bootlegs if they wanted to by re-releasing these albums on vinyl themselves. Frankly I'm surprised they haven't.

I almost purchased Live at Wembley from Ebay before realizing it was one of the bootlegs. Ended up finding an official Spanish copy instead.
As Brian's Wig mentions above though, from what I've heard, they sound as good as the official releases, so if you just want a cheap alternative, it might be a good way for some.
I've noticed a tonne of Mexican & Israeli "promo" vinyl pop up on Ebay in recent years with alternate sleeves. I've never gone for them as I believe they are fake sleeves with official releases inside of them.
Also - what's with the sudden influx of Hammer To Fall live sleeves on Ebay right now?

what's with the sudden influx of Hammer To Fall live sleeves on Ebay right now? That's rhetorical, right?

The fair in Nijmegen? I saw the same items. Have to admit, some of them looked pretty nice. Better than some of the offical ones

And you're right, the counterfeits look extremely convincing and nice.
