In my opinion, the mixing of the BBC Sessions for the News Of The World sound very lifeless, there’s no power in the bass and drums. Does anyone know why the mixing is a bit weak in these particular sessions? I’ve yet to see anyone attempt to remaster some BBC tracks. It’s kind of a thorn in my side, wondering if others have the same opinion.

Very likely, music from the current timeframe will be regarded as extremely boomy with overly bassy drums in the future.

That or maybe a lazy mixing engineer.... I find the sound of NOTW among Queen's finest. The BBC maybe need a faster mixing work.

To each their own? I really love the sound on the BBC NOTW sessions.

I think NOTW is one of the best sounding Queen albums, (along with ADATR) however the NOTW BBC sessions are equally as good. They capture Brian’s taw guitar sound brilliantly and the drum sound is amazing, listen to Roger’s fills on Spread Your Wings. The sound on these songs has the feeling of a band playing together “live” in the studio, something missing on a lot of their albums.

SYW in particular sounds a hundred times better than the album version. The only thing which disappointed me was that they didn't play It's Late in full. That GDML bit they shoehorned in totally ruined what could have been our only decently recorded 'live' version of the track to date.

I only have a bootleg CD with all of the songs from the BBC NOTW sessions so I can't provide an accurate assessment of the songs in terms of sound quality, but I've always liked the BBC version of SYW better than the album version with the longer arrangement and 'speed-up' toward the end. I agree with LF about It's Late; I wouldn't have minded the GDML bit if they found a way to include it separately.

I love the NOTW BBC sessions!!! Especially the drum sound they got for the recordings! And as stated above, the fact that they sound like the songs were recorded live as a band gave those tunes such a raw sound.
