I can't read Spanish, but the origin of the story seems to be Bloomberg, who generally don't report on business news like this unless they have credible sources. It'd be a tough series of negotiations, though - what with Disney holding the North American rights...

Might this make it more likely for them to release some more compelling reissues?
From a quick search on SuperDeluxeEdition.com, they seem to have covered more recent releases from BMG than UMG.

Will it make any difference? I mean, they'll still only release what Brian and Roger want to release, won't they?

The guys could insist on retaining that right, but if they do, it would seriously drive down the price, mostly because it would limit Sony's freedom in selling non-exclusive rights to songs for use in ads.

Just received the new Crowded House album Gravity Stars in Dolby Atmos from them (https://superdeluxeedition.com/news/crowded-house-gravity-stairs-sde-exclusive-deluxe-blu-ray/). Better then anything Queen has released sound wise in recent years. Hopefully this Sony rumour could see more stuff like this.

Queen's current output already does numbers, especially for a band that's been inactive for 30~ years. I doubt that Sony would look at that and see any reason to reinvent the wheel here. No reason to expect more than the usual, IMO.

If a deal is made that doesn't require the band members to sign off on releases, I'd expect plenty of low-grade remixes for advertising and possibly film/tv, and the occasional 'easy' release of something previously (officially) unreleased, like a re-issue of an album with a couple of b-sides / single versions slapped on along with a live recording in raw form (i.e., a radio broadcast in most cases). Nothing spectacular, but technically new. If the guys get to decide to some degree on quality control, I would expect nothing new at all.

I am looking forward to a greatest hits package, I don't think that has been released yet.😂
I am expecting nothing spectacular so I won't be disappointed when we get the usual shite.

Multiple sources confirm but deal ain't closed yet (perhaps in a few weeks???) It ain't over until Freddie sings ...hitsdailydouble.com/near_truths_item&id=341660&title=NEAR-TRUTHS%3A-QUEEN-OF-DIAMONDSThe deal is expected to close in the next few weeks, but insiders wonder if SME will hold off announcing it for some time, as has been their M.O. Wonderers also wonder if longtime manager Jim Beach and his daughter, Matilda, who have been participating in Queen monies since forever, will take a slice of the cash pie—and if so, how big a piece?
Also ... variety.com/2024/music/news/queen-catalog-acquired-by-sony-music-1-billion-1236042619/T he Queen music catalog, along with a number of other rights, is in the process of being acquired by Sony Music for £1 billion (around $1.27 billion), two sources confirm to Variety. The news was first reported by Hits;

of course they don't have right over live material.. Quote from the original article: "The only revenue not encompassed by the massive agreement is live receipts, which will continue to be generated by the two surviving band members who still perform, Brian May and Roger Taylor." This is referring to performance royalties of current shows - not archival recordings.

This didn't affect to the releases. Is just that the money that generates the catalogue, will go to Sony. Universal stills the Queen's record company
