My box-set that I ordered from the QOL shop only arrived late Saturday night in the UK. The single/CD I ordered separately as I either didn't see it at the time or was added later (I was on holiday at the time) arrived ok on Friday.

A brilliant suggestion. Since it's the 50th anniversary of their debut album, let's start with that and move forward.

I’ve enjoyed the music so far. I actually preferred this 2023 mix than the original. I’ve discovered so much more detail in each of the songs.
- Favourite parts are the various jams and riffs - Still feel like they should have opened disc 1 with the original track listing and moved the single version to the end. Weird choice. - As people have mentioned above, it’s weird that they put a vinyl only track on the 7” when it should have been included in the CD - it’s great hearing Brian so happy - love the playing of Eddie, Phil, Alan, and Fred. Kudos to them too.

Regarding which sessions Let Me Out was first intended for-
In 1993, while I was a poor college student, i contacted a member of the ol' QMS (Queen Mailimg Service...remember that?) to purchase a 4 cassette bootleg compilation entitled Opera Omnia. (Who remembers THAT classic?) He asked me if I would also be interested in another cassette that he found in trading circles and included a tracklist. I truly wish I had written it down, but I do remember some of the titles-
Don't Lose Your Head (Joan Arm. on lead vocals, Freddie on backing vocals), Princes of the Universe (helicopter version), There Must be More to Life Than This with MJ, TMLWKY with Freddie vocals (this was two years before MIH) and...Let Me Out (instrumental jam from JAZZ sessions).
Seeing that a few of these titles did emerge in subsequent years, I tend to believe the Jazz sessions theory. Sadly, because I was a poor college student in '93, I could only afford Opera Omnia!

Seeing that a few of these titles did emerge in subsequent years, I tend to believe the Jazz sessions theory. Sadly, because I was a poor college student in '93, I could only afford Opera Omnia! Thats what I subscribe to as well, that Let Me Out is from Jazz, because John said in a contemporary interview that they thought about putting out Jazz as a double album, and Billboard also mentioned that: “Four or five [songs] were discarded, [and] the band could easily have made a double-pocket album”. I know that could read as wishful thinking on Billboard’s part, but it did seem to be mentioned on more than one occasion by two band members (Roger also said “Doubles are too hard to assimilate. It’s so much of yourself to throw at people in one go.”). So I wouldn’t be surprised if Let Me Out originated from Jazz. Edit: the Billboard quote was actually from a press release for the album that was run in Billboard, so that’s coming straight from the horse’s mouth (Roger’s quote is from the same press release).

One thing that struck me listening to these out-takes is how good drummer Alan Gratzer is. I'd never really listened much to the drums on this before, but they sound really fresh and alive on this release, adding that crucial drive to the Star Fleet tracks in particular.

For some reason I really dig the multiple takes of Star Fleet but the Let Me Out takes haven’t grabbed me yet. I do miss the synth on the Star Fleet takes; they must’ve been a later overdub, which I suppose makes sense, the synth parts seem a little more involved and “arranged” than they would’ve if they were simply jamming. Never mind that, what's the weather like there? I know you’re joking but it’s brutally hot, has been brutally hot for weeks, and will remain brutally hot for weeks. That will sometimes create meteorological disturbances and we’ve gotten some incredible thunderstorms that have turned into tornado watches and even warnings. This is highly unusual for a “coastal” city (which technically Philly is even though it’s on a river, it’s only an hour from the Atlantic) and is more common in the midwest – where saintjuib lives – but seems to be more and more frequent as the years advance. Can’t imagine why…! /s Mandel's interview in the book from the boxset suggests he arrived late on day 1, while EVH was working on some solo overdubs, then got to work on the synth. I'd always assumed it was recorded live with the rest of the band, but day 2 he was there from the start. Turns out Bluesbreaker was the first thing they played on that day.

Lord Fickle I can fill in the LA show soundboard we have with LMO from the release to make the show musically complete for the "Solo" download section of the forum. I'd like to ask for your opinion about that. I won't post anything without permission.
Edit: I will fill it in anyway for my personal use only, so the question is, if you'd like to have download link.

If there’s officially released material then no public links please.

So the complete setlist (most probably) looks like this: 1. The Dark (Intro) 2. Back To The Light 3. Driven By You 4. Tie Your Mother Down 5. Love Token - missing 6. Love of My Life 7. '39 (Intro) 8. Too Much Love Will Kill You 9. Spike Edney's Keyboard Solo - missing 10. Now I'm Here 11. Guitar Extravagance 12. Resurrection 13. Last Horizon 14. Hammer To Fall 15. Let Me Out 16. We Will Rock You 17. We Will Rock You (Fast)

You really need "no official releases" explaining? ? There are a few uploads on the forum from soundboard source or audience sources with one or two songs that was released so it's not that clear. Please don't try to be too smart (or arrogant).

The rules have evolved since the forum started, but I think they are clear now. Unfortunately we haven't had the time to look back over the entire forum to check for full compliance retrospectively, but please take it that as the rules currently state, no official copyrighted material may be shared either whole or in part on the forum. 🙂

Los Angeles 1993 show was never appeared in complete form, incomplete track lists were prepared for radio broadcasts. So Let Me Out is not the only song we didn't know about. Love Token was played but never broadcasted as well.

I got my 2 CD package from Japan today and was wondering if the original mixes were on it. I was going to ask on here but you have answered my question...Thank you. So the original recordings that were on the 83 mini LP, and the CD1 and CD2 releases of Back To The Light, are still stand alone versions. I would have thought that they would have least been included in the new release.

I guess he wanted to concentrate on unreleased stuff, which is what we all wanted.

It might have cost a little more, but it would have then been complete and not leave fans trying to find the originals. I have the originals but there will be a lot of younger fans that are looking for these. The originals including BTTL did not sell a lot of copies so they are quite rare now. Edit....On looking on Discogs they don`t seem overpriced, so it really should have not cost a lot more to add a bonus CD.

Love Token was played but never broadcasted as well. You're right. I've checked the available setlist from this Guns' support shows and even if some songs were swapped from show to show, but on all Love Token is present, as well as Spike's solo. But i doubt that more than these two tracks are missing - these support shows were around 1h.

I believe you're correct. I bought the original 7" single (as well as the 12" mini album) back in 1983, but I also picked up that CD you link to a few years ago.
