This was a timeline I began working on in April 2020 during the period of global isolation of the covid pandemic, and unfortunately I did not get around to finishing this timeline. This timeline was part of a massive fan-made documentary project that was supposed to see the light of day last year, but the project was regrettably abandoned, after our lives began to go back to normal and everyday obligations became too much of a blockade to continue the project. However, there is an abundant amount of new information that may not have been previously reported which may be of interest to everybody here who is more inclined towards the exact history of the band. Now, I must provide a few disclaimers before anybody reads this. This timeline was highly constructed through investigative work, meaning that many dates were drawn through a general consensus of the band’s work habits inside and outside the studio, and approximations based off of weather patterns and crucially ephemeral references to world events. This version of the timeline represents the state of work completed in October of 2021, shortly before the project was abandoned. Unfortunately, I made the foolish choice of not citing the sources I used for any of the information in this timeline. Nevertheless, I can really only tell you I attempted to remain as truthful, yet inquisitive of the exact timeframe of the band as I could. I hope that the sheer amount of work put into this can prove that statement to any of the readers. This level of progress on the timeline took 18 months of excessive analysis. This also means that you should take the validity of these dates with a grain of salt. Dates that have an extremely questionable nature will be marked with a (?). The true validity of dates NOT marked with (?) can really be taken in by the reader and the sources they have been exposed to. Fair warning maybe some of the markings of extremely questionable dates (AKA (?)) have been missed, if so, please notify me and I will add it on as soon as I can. To whoever reads this, I greatly appreciate the support that is your attention. Link: docs.google.com/document/d/10gy4c9VZP3gizp5vpsNRAJukJq5lVbb_WOCokJJwfYE

This is great stuff, very intensive! I especially like the random “album shit”, “solo stuff ‘n shit”, and my personal favorite “fuck all apparently”.

WOW... simply WOW... queenfanatic, this is indeed an impressive amount of work, makes me think how an ol' dear Fred would have smiled looking at how 'Queen' became a subject of enthusiasm and study

I have only looked at the first few years and it’s clearly a massive piece of work. I believe there is an error though - Roger recorded the demo with the reaction which would mean it wasn’t 1963. Queen in Cornwall is a good source of info for this - sadly I don’t own it only read it so can’t confirm the actual date.

Queen in Cornwall is a good source of info for this - sadly I don’t own it only read it so can’t confirm the actual date. That totally flew under my radar, thanks for the heads up! I may remove that from the timeline until I can determine an appropriately concise range for when it was recorded.

It’ll be 1966 - after they won the contest. Not sure of exact date.

I can easily tell a lot of dedication and research was put into this. Really good work, organized well for easy reading.
I haven't finished reading yet but it's really well done.

There's a slight error in March 1993, Brian played in Portland, Maine not Portland, Oregon
Edit: Roger played in Valletta, Malta, not Valletta, Italy (Jan. 1995)

So, it appears that a lot of post-1980 writings are working versions of the extensive research I was planning at that specific period to do later. Will have to come back and re-scrutinize it on my own time. Thank you for bring this to my attention !

Great work! A little mistake: On July 25th 1970, it's Mike Grose that leaves Queen, not Barry Mitchell.

Thank you for sharing! Amazing effort. I dipped in and searched 'Bowie' just to see, and humbly offer these clarifications and updates:
1969 June 20th: Smile record material at Trident Studios. Songs recorded were Earth, Step On Me, and Doin’ Alright. David Bowie is also present at the studio that day recording what would become his first hit, ‘Space Oddity’.
This is listed as 1971, but is actually 1972: January 29th: Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor watch as David Bowie debuts his Ziggy Stardust character at The Friar’s Club in Aylesbury.
1971 September 25th: Roger attends David Bowie's gig at the Friars Club Aylesbury Roger. Also around this date, Brian flies to Tenerife.
1972 February 12th: Roger and Brian attend David Bowie’s show at Imperial College: Afterwards, they hang around the stage, quizzing the roadies about guitarist Mick Ronson's equipment
1972 June 24th: David Bowie enters Trident Studios for a day to record his next single ‘John, I’m Only Dancing’ and an as yet unreleased cover of The Who’s ‘I Can’t Explain’. This might have been a later session for Queen tonight.
1972 June 29th: Bowie is back at Trident to record an instrumental version of his current hit ‘Starman' for a Top Of The Pops performance on 5th July (broadcast the following day). There may or may not have been studio work today.
1974 February 18th: With Bowie unavailable to perform his new single ‘Rebel Rebel’, Queen are booked to mime ‘Seven Seas Of Rhye’ on Top Of The Pops.
1994 September 16th: Steve Pafford writes to Murray (?!) about questions he’d like to ask Roger for a feature on Queen, Bowie, Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson.
Proof reading / fact checking is my job so if you want to take it further, I'll happily tidy up the grammar etc for you.

I'd like to add this to November 16th, 1977.

A recent episode of Queenpod invited Chris Smith, who was Freddie’s Ealing schoolmate and Smile’s keyboard for a brief period, to talk about his memoir The Smile File. He mentioned when 1984 band was performing Ealing’s Christmas ball in 1967, Freddie was in the front row, and they were very impressed by 1984’s guitarist, a certain Brian May. So maybe Freddie had met Brian at the end of 1967.

If you read through the description of the items, the ""Queen Summer 83" t-shirts are for the Queen summer garden party of that year. Hope this helps.
