Hi everybody. Today I would like to share with you another article from the American press: this is an interview to guitarist Brian May, held by journalist Lynn Van Matre, on the release of Queen's album 'The Works'. It's titled Queen's Rx for queasy sales: Give the people what they want and it was published in the Chicago Tribune on April 29th, 1984.Lynn Van Matre is a very well known name in the Chicago area; in addition to reviewing many artists, she was the journalist who attended many Queen concerts in that area and wrote the reviews; among her most famous are those of the concerts at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on March 8th, 1975, at the Chicago Stadium on January 28th, 1977 and December 7th, 1978 and at the Rosemont Horizon on September 19th, 1980.In this article, Van Matre talks about the release of the album 'The Works' and obviously mentions the commercial fiasco of 'Hot Space' (mistakenly naming the track 'Body Language' as 'Body Talk'), obviously citing its poor sales. On the new Queen album, he spends quite positive words - the album is indicated to be approaching 500,000 copies sold in America and Gold Record status - as well as on the single 'Radio Ga Ga', which reached the Top 20 in the US. The interview with Brian then focuses on the fact that Queen have recorded new material following what people want to hear and underlines the importance of music videos as a means of promoting songs. The new video 'I Want To Break Free' is also mentioned at the end of the article; it was censored by MTV shortly thereafter.
Enjoy the reading!
