Hello everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that while Chinwonder2 continues uploading the complete Queen discography along with a few other things on YouTube, I'm planning to work on and off on writing down notes for the next installment in the Live vs. Overdubs series. For those wondering, it is planned to be about the Budapest and Knebworth concerts, which are, as I'm writing this, the last concerts of the last weeks of the Magic Tour the band has ever released, either fully or partially.
As you probably know, these last concerts have had their fair share of releases over the last three or so decades, having been featured in compilations, singles or even single concert releases.
Starting from the beginning, Budapest and Knebworth both were featured (albeit partially) on the album Live Magic, released in December 1986, with the former getting a 90 minutes film, consisting of both concert footage of the band and of them enjoying their stay in Budapest, named Live in Budapest, which would premiere on the 12th of the same month (seemingly with a slightly less polished mix if the leaked Russian print is any indication) and would then see a release on home video in 1987, featuring the finished mix we all know and love. The Budapest film then saw a re-release in 2012, entitled Hungarian Rhapsody: Live in Budapest, with restored film footage and a brand new multitrack mix being the big selling points of this re-release. Not only that, but for the first time ever, the (nearly) complete concert would be featured on CD and Digital too.
Now, if you thought Live Magic would be the last we'd see of the Knebworth concert, you'd be wrong, as more content would be released over the years, like Under Pressure and the ending of the vocal improv before it, which were featured on the Under Pressure "Rah Mix" CD single in 2000 (with a brand new mix may I add), and Is This The World We Created…? being first featured on the DoRo-made documentary The Magic Years released on November 30th 1987 (and which featured a similar mix to other Knebworth performances on Live Magic). Curiously enough, this very same song would be featured on the Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender documentary in 2012 with a brand new mix, very reminiscent of recent official releases' mixes.
Now, you're probably wondering why I wrote this paragraph which could be featured on an essay, and it's because of a very simple reason: most if not all of the releases mentioned above will be featured in some way, shape or form. Because of the amount of work that this represents, I thought I'd ask y'all if there's instrumental or vocal overdubs you may have found over the years that I or Chin wouldn't have yet and that you thought would be worth sharing.
Leave a reply to the thread and I'll make sure to update my notes as we go.
That's all the news I have to share for now.
Stay tuned for more updates in the coming months!
