Bottom line is Greg has unnofficially confirmed to me today that there is NO release this year, just as we were all beginning to suspect.

I can't say I'm surprised, already having had The Miracle box set and Brian's Star Fleet. Disappointed, but not surprised.

With Q+AL touring right now, I'm really not surprised. Brian and Roger probably want to focus on that for the time being.

They could have made a simple release, such as Queen I with any extras (any good version of "Hangman" live, a few live album tracks from whatever date, instrumentals, etc.), not requiring the work a full-blown archival release entails, and yet, they waste THE golden 50th anniversary opportunity. Simply unbelievable. QPL's release "schedule" is preposterous and directionless. With Q+AL touring right now, I'm really not surprised. Brian and Roger probably want to focus on that for the time being. Sure, but how often does a band's first album turn half a century old? Every other top act knows such a re-release is gonna sell gangbusters, and the most loyal fans are expecting it too. The band members could absolutely commit to any project, while letting their archival staff team create something for the occasion. It's not like it'll tarnish their ongoing work at this point, but very much the contrary.

I'm conflicted.
On the one hand, I don't give any credence to his pronouncements.
On the other, this is confirmation of what I've been expecting for the last six months.
Thoughts and prayers are with the anniversary speculators at this difficult time...

how often does a band's first album turn half a century old? Technically, the answer to that is "every week".

I don't know guys... I don't believe to Greg's words... Could be that QPL is working on a project and said to Greg to not talk about it. I remember when he said queen archives were empty and that we all knew what they had... Then in 2022 they release "You belong to me" "Water"... where do they come from?
So in my opinion it could be that they won't release anything but it could be also that Greg couldn't talk about projects with fans due to QPL.
One thing is true, Usually queen releases come out in November. So if we don't have any news in October Greg is saying the true. Let's hope. Let's hope for the 42nd anniversary of Greatest hits! (Joke)

I`m at that stage in life where I don`t wish away months or years waiting for a new release. I am happy to get any anniversary releases that come out. I can understand the younger fans wanting "new" stuff as I was the same. As you get older though you do get a different outlook on things.

Well I suppose my wallet is thankful. I'm really surprised there's no live release though. I'd assumed the whole you tube thing had some product at the end of it.

This thing you're saying is the confirmation that QPL has lost many occasions to release things. As years go by people care less, even the younger ones will lose their interest soon. Qpl should have took advantage of 2010s to release concerts remastered in HD such as Rainbow and Hammy 75. They should have took advantage of Bohemian Rhapsody (Biopic) to release a new concert with Freddie to celebrate the live career. Hammy 79 could be the greatest live release of queen. They also should have released something for the 50th anniversary of the band or the 50th of Queen I. They lost too many trains and everybody are losing interest. Sorry for my bad English, I'm Italian and it's difficult to articulate these things

If he said that the sky was blue and grass was green, i'd feel compelled to validate it elsewhere. he is [IMO] a narcissist specializing in the already known or tides of misinformation.

I’m amazed QP have used his “services” for so long and allowed him to make statements which are at best misleading.
Other artists seem to have their back catalogue much better documented and looked after. And those artists are probably better informed and have a better understanding of what their fan base want to hear/see.

Given its now almost mid-October and releases tend to be around November to capture the Christmas market, is anyone seriously still holding out for a release? If that was the case, the press release would be out there, the pre-sale would be open, the world would know. There is nothing forthcoming. The releases are becoming more bizarre in my humble opinion. Why a Miracle boxset but not The Game? Surely Innuendo is more befitting a boxset than The Miracle given its Freddie's last album. Even Metallica have just announced their first 5 albums are to be released with a stack of new material and outtakes. I adore Queen. Always will love the music.
Apart now from being a hugely popular touring nostalgic band, and always will be and I will rush to buy tickets for any UK gig, from a new music perspective they are dormant. Only Roger's solo music still stirs with me. Brian is an empty shell.

Only Roger's solo music still stirs with me. Brian is an empty shell. i take your point. the last three years has seen more material releases from the Beatles - a band who died long before Queen's first single was released! Brian's not really an empty shell, is he? he's doing what he wants to do - and so he should. we may have opinions on what Queen should do, but perhaps we should be grateful for the ride we had. Your point about Roger is an interesting one - personally, I prefer (and always have) most of Roger's entire solo career to anything Queen produced between 80-86 and all of Brian's stuff. So while Roger continues to record, I'm happy enough.

Next year is the anniversary of The Works (1984) so maybe as they seem to be focused in their current tour on that album we will see some "archival" release.... Mmmm... Fully pro-audio recording of Brussels 1984 opening night and whatever video recording of it they have, beautifully presented in glorious HD or 4k with synced audio would be a dream come true.

I listened to that Brussels 1984 show this weekend. I forgot how brilliant it was. I don't think we'll ever get a pro recording from that show though. Not even a soundboard recording is known to exist. And the footage is probably only bits and pieces. But I share your sentiment 😄

(piano version) ♦ It's A Hard Life (Freddie's vocal slave) ♦ Keep Passing The Open Windows (early Queen demo) ♦ Keep Passing The Open Windows (Freddie demo) ♦ Let Me In Your Heart Again - released 2014♦ Love Kills - released 2014♦ Machines (Or 'Back To Humans') (intro demo) ♦ Man Made Paradise ♦ Man On Fire ♦ Radio Ka Ka (Roger's original demo) ♦ Tear It Up (Brian vocal demo) ♦ There Must Be More To Life Than This - released 2014♦ Victory ♦ Whipping Boydoesn't inspire a deluxe edition, does it?

I had that thought too and almost “called it” in the spoilers thread but didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, especially mine! That said, don’t get your hopes up – remember, QPL doesn’t exactly care much about following those pesky anniversaries. THAT said, I would certainly purchase a Works box set of the same caliber as NOTW/The Miracle! (It’d be a no-brainer purchase if they threw in a live show, too, which they should’ve done with NOTW…)

I would happily take alternate takes/mixes of the entire album, those on the two deluxe boxes have been absolute revelations (especially Party, something I never thought I’d say!) They can also do a Workstrumentals disc. There, I even gave them a stupid name for it. Edit: also, we didn’t know about You Know You Belong to Me or Water before 2022, so who knows what kind of gems like those are in the vaults!

We've tangented into a "what would The WOrks boxset look like" - why not have a thread for each album, to be resurrected every 3.14159 supermoons?
