We've tangented into a "what would The WOrks boxset look like" - why not have a thread for each album, to be resurrected every 3.14159 supermoons? I think it's called the Nostradamus Principle. With enough speculation, someone is going to be right one day. 🙄

Even Metallica have just announced their first 5 albums are to be released with a stack of new material and outtakes. That's not true. Metallica have announced colored vinyl reissues of their first five albums, which have been out in the US for some time. Ofcourse Metallica have put out very large boxsets for some of their biggest albums (Master, Justice, Black) - all of which were 10/15+ discs affairs if I'm not mistaken.

We can only speculate, I wonder if the rumoured sale of the Queen back catalogue has an effect on any new release? Personally I had hoped that it might lead to more releases as Universal/Disney would want to recoup some of their investment, but that’s just my thoughts.
However, there does seem to be regenerated interest in The Works on the current tour, although they have left Tear It Up out of the set list. I think there will be more expanded releases, but goodness knows when.

When was the QAL set list any indicator of future release plans?

Love Kills was played shortly before Queen Forever was released.
That is probably the only anomaly though.

Any news on which ‘unreleased songs’ were played at the convention?

When was the QAL set list any indicator of future release plans? Well, 2017's return of Get Down Make Love, Spread Your Wings, and It's Late DID line up with the News Of The World celebration that year, so I could understand that coming to mind with how much Works material is on this current tour. That said, I definitely wouldn't put much weight into it.

That said, I definitely wouldn't put much weight into it. agreed. the resurgence of the NoTW tracks did tie in with the reissue which was due to the 40th anniversary. For the Works thing to happen, there'd need to be a 40th anniversary box for Works in the offing and the songs would then (likely) appear in a 2024 setlist - in the same way that bands promote their new LPs by playing tracks on the associated tour. On that note: thank f*ck 2022 came and went without the presence of a HS box. now that would've been a crime against rock n roll

I've checked setlist.com
SYW, it's late, and GDML were added from Jun-Jul 2017. By August, and through the announcement and release of the box, only the last of those remained.
Looking at current set, other than Machines as an intro tape, there's only the four hit singles from the Works, any of which are non-controversial inclusions in a Greatest Hits set. When they do tear It Up, Man On The Prowl and I Go Crazy, then we can talk.

I didn’t realize they added It’s a Hard Life to the set.
And all three NOTW songs you mentioned were played live. Only Tear It Up has ever been played live in full; if your argument was Who Needs You and Feelings Feelings it would be more comparable.

Theme and production wise, this tour has been super Works-ified to pretty much the same level that the 2017 tour was NOTWorld-sified. It's very visually telling. I'm not saying I agree this is indicating any Works-related release, but it's a comparable aspect.

When they do tear It Up, Man On The Prowl and I Go Crazy, then we can talk. The addition of The Works is what's interesting here. Not just it being here with no context. ITTWWC being done by QAL for the first time, the Machines/Radio GaGa thing being the opener AND closer, Brian literally calling it the "back to humans tour" on his Instagram, etc. It's clear that The Works has a huge influence on this tour, especially compared to the previous setlist. Also, with the exception of Tear It Up, I think it's unfair to say that. For the 2017 set, they only brought back songs that they DID perform live with Freddie for that album. And at that, it wasn't even everything they did. SOTS and MMB were excluded, but that doesn't mean the NOTW influence was unintentional. At the end of the day, I'm on neither side about whether or not this means any Works archival content is coming. There's no concrete, definitive evidence of anything here; but again with NOTW, QAL and the next archival release have lined up before. I do think that there's enough to at least warrant some discussion about it.

I think that we won't see any 2023 release. It's too late. They're on tour, and November is next week. Too late for a release. Christmas Market is also near, and we still don't know anything about anything so I think it's late for any release.
Next year could be the year of a Works related release. But who knows...
If they do big money with q+al it's hard to get a cool release. They do the money with gigs, so why spend money in remastering teams or production to sell Hyde Park or anything else that nowadays masses wouldn't buy? They missed too much trains, they missed the right occasions.

The heavy use of Machines isn’t so much about The Works but seems more like a way to be relevant with the times. Machines is particularly prescient in this age of AI and it’s influence on how music will and is produced. Brian has already issued a warning about it and the inclusion of the song with visuals on this tour feels like it’s more about that.

We're so desperately looking for clues of a new release that I'm surprised no one has put forth the theory that since QPL doesn't try to hard to put out material we want, it's a sign of an Innuendo box set.

Good theory, but clearly the amount of touring is designed to demonstrate staying power, a subtle hint of the forthcoming Hot Space box. Also, the lack of HS songs beyond UP in the setliat is a dead giveaway.

So, nothing this year, and next year, three Collector's editions! Great stuff!
Realistically, Roger and Brian have about 10 years left to be actively involved in any sort of anniversary release, so I would suggest they get on with it. (maybe an unpopular opinion)

People in this thread getting very hung up on anniversaries.
Meanwhile Guns n’ Roses released their 30th anniversary edition of Appetite for Destruction 31 years after the album originally came out.

Briand and Roger are pretty vocal about focusing on the present, rather than the past. at the moment, I'm sure the curren tour, and the forthcoming dates in Japan, is what's on their mind.
it's a crying shame that one of the world's biggest band don't celebrate the 50th anniversary of their debut album. Most die hard fans will agree that this album is a very strong album that showcases the band in their rawest form. Would a collector's box be a blockbuster? No But same goes for The Miracle. I don't think that box set did impressive numbers, and imo there's no doubt that Queen is a much more important album than The Miracle

To be honest I am into so many different bands /artists these days who are releasing new albums that I don't really get to upset with QPL they just give us a few scraps now and then.
