unless they fill it with outtakes and demos, there ain't much in the way of studio recordings to be had. from what's "known" to exist from the sessions: ♦ Another Little Piece Of My Heart (with Beck & Stewart?)♦ Is This The World We Created...? (piano version) ♦ It's A Hard Life (Freddie's vocal slave) ♦ Keep Passing The Open Windows (early Queen demo) ♦ Keep Passing The Open Windows (Freddie demo) ♦ Let Me In Your Heart Again - released 2014♦ Love Kills - released 2014♦ Machines (Or 'Back To Humans') (intro demo) ♦ Man Made Paradise ♦ Man On Fire ♦ Radio Ka Ka (Roger's original demo) ♦ Tear It Up (Brian vocal demo) ♦ There Must Be More To Life Than This - released 2014♦ Victory - (the Jackson estate have still to grant permission - if ever) ♦ Whipping Boy (I Go Crazy) doesn't inspire a deluxe edition, does it? What makes you think there's a lack of proper material to be released on potential boxset? I'd say that Works is one of the first I'd think of to get the box treatment as opposed to the earliest albums when they obviously had studio time/tape limits. They surely DO have the early takes of each song plus the amount of titles we learned from Works sessions overpasses any other album, obviously except for TM. Early takes of each song, throw in some demos of unreleased songs and you get the same thing as The Miracle box. Moreover, Sotheby's exhibition has shown that those Miracle treats we got on the box set are really only a tiny part of what they've been working on and what we'd like to hear. I think you've misunderstood my post. I clarified by saying that the sessions "did not yield a huge slab of material"as I said in the other thread [above]: a basic look at what we know exists compared to what we knew to exist for Miracle, is a fair starting point. The more known, then the more potential for unknown items. There was a ton of "known" unreleased Miracle tunes. For The Works, the known "unreleased" original songs appear to be two solo tunes: ♦ Man Made Paradise ♦ Man On Fire The Miracle had a lot more material recorded during the sessions, hence the boxset. I suppose the question is 'How big should a box set be?' or 'How many CD's does it take to make a box set?'. We were blessed with 5 whole CD's of music for The Miracle but only 3 for News of the World, plus of course a DVD/Blu Ray for each. I think we have plenty of material, that we know of, for a decent box set for The Works - plus a few obligatory surprises. I think The Works could easily be 3 or 4 CD's - original album (plus original songs since released), 12" and alternate mixes, b-sides and instrumentals, early mixes and some known and unknown unreleased songs. And a DVD/Blu Ray....

What is odd (sorry if someone's said, I've only skimmed this thread quickly at 3.15am) is that Whipping Boy has NO time/length written beside it. The others obviously have a running time....this could be I Go Crazy, as discussed, or it simply wasn't recorded at all?

I'd guess Brian's idea was Las palabras de amor, simply because he may have had a thought about a Spanish/English song but no working lyrics.

Could just be that it wasn't in a finished enough state to have a runtime worth noting down

The Works really does deserve a release that does the album justice on digital. An anniversary edition could have so much potential! It never used to be one of my favourite albums, but that changed when I heard it on the original LP for the first time. The music really jumps out at you like you're in the studio with them. All existing digital versions are lifeless in comparison. If you've never heard anything other than the stock digital releases, do yourself a favour and check this out: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOvYtqeUuiLtJeaiRQdiW24GncmxhG9JfThis project isn't shared to the public yet and it's a very long-winded process to get to this point, but summing it up, it's as close of a digital clone of the original UK LP that we'll ever get (assuming they never re-transfer the master tapes again).....

I first had The Works on vinyl in 1984, and I do remember the slightly 'warmer' sound to the original (1986?) CD, but I always found vinyl records suffered from a degrading of sound quality towards the end of each side, so when the CDs came out it was great to hear the whole albums in the same sound quality, even though some of those first Queen CDs had issues.

Oh you're very right! The longer albums especially suffered from that. I tried restoring the LPs in digital form a while back but eventually gave up for this exact reason. I ended up going a different route, and managed to get the result I wanted by actually using a digital source as the base. Beneath the "lifelessness", and with a bunch of different techniques, it's possible to revert the sound to it's original state! Obviously won't work if the source is riddled with things like compression and NR, but I think I've found a reliable enough source for almost all the albums. Some require tons more work than others but am getting there...

If they're pulled, that might indicate something in 'the works' for The Works.

I think uploading the entire (copyrighted) album to YouTube will get a block whatever their future release plans may be ...

I wonder if Freddie ever sang lyrics for "Man On Fire", or was it was Roger Taylor all along (before he included it on his solo album)?

I think we can bet that if that song had been worked on during The Works recording sessions (along with Man Made Paradise, There Must Be More To Life Than This, Love Kills and some other tracks that found its way onto solo albums by Roger or Brian or Freddie) then there is a take of Man On Fire with Freddie on vocals.

I was randomly scrolling through Musicland's FB page when I found this. It's not a new image so not sure if it's relevant to the discussion, but just in case.

I Remember that photo back in 2014/15, an other interesting thing is those two songs written with the light pencil: "Your heart again (edit)" and the other is difficult to read but maybe stands for "What to ? Queen(?)"

Definitely "intro edit" - clear to see if you compare it with the line above.
