as far as success goes - what has happened post the BoRhap movie is a different story. If that film had been released in 2005 - QPR would have done the same numbers. also, classic rock bands/brands do WAY better business now than 15-20 years ago. comparing 2005-2008 to 2012-2018 is more interesting though. and apart from arguably better ticket sales in the US (can someone explain that to me? I don't think lambert has the drawing power the equals the difference in ticket sales, and I somehow don't think the same number of tickets said "NO WAY" when QPR came to town, and "YES PLEASE" when lambert came on board.) they did the same venues from 2005-2018, regardless of singer. people tend to get caught up in the TCR album and its lack of commercial success, but as a live act, QPR was NOT unsuccessfull The first US tour with Lambert out sold the previous Q+PR tours as did the following tours, before Bohemian Rhapsody (film) was released. Obviously the release of the film has increased sales but the fact still remains that with Lambert they have been a bigger live draw than with Rodgers. It is purely down to more people wanting to see Queen fronted by Lambert. It’s not about the number of tickets either Rodgers or Lambert can sell, it’s about how popular Queen + are with which ever singer. As an artist Lambert probably doesn’t sell as many tickets as Paul Rodgers, but that isn’t what this is about. As for the working relationship goes. Yes Paul Rodgers was on a level footing with Brian and Roger, but he has a reputation for being not the easiest person to work with, there are plenty of stories about him and the Queen guys having words. Lambert, when he started, very much looked up to Brian and Roger. That has changed through the years, although there is respect on both sides, he certainly has input into what they do and does make his feelings clear when needed. The difference is that they get along on many levels which wasn’t the case with Paul Rodgers. as I said above - the situation in the US is different. For some reason. It baffles me, but it is what it is look at European ticket sales from 2005-2008 VS 2012-2018 though. They did the same business

Queen with Paul was a riding on the wave of huge Queen sales in Europe, Japan and even USA dvd and Platinum collection, also the musical was very successful.
Their 2 tours in Europe had very good sales but neither matched Queen and Adam 2013-2018 tours. Don't mention after Bohemian Rhapsody.
QPR played better Pauls songs while few Queen songs did justice TYMD, IWIA and HTF others sung by Roger or Brian. The setlist was slow pace and lacking some dynamic energy. No colour or sense of humour.
Iwent both tours with company not Quuen fans, the feedback was that the musical was better...this says it all.
While with Adam in 2015,2016 2017 was lets do it again.
Queen lost momentum with Paul after 2006 there was cancellation in futur releases, sales drop etc. I have metioned in previus posts.

I enjoyed both PR runs but it somehow it sounded more like Bad Co playing Queen songs (makes no sense I know, half of Queen and their regular touring keyboard player) Paul Rodgers is great at what he does, but it was never on the same path that Queen were on, he’s singing style really limits him to a particular type of song. I Want To Break Free for example did not fit that style. They played more or less the same Queen songs over the two tours they did. The staging was a very generic production designed to a tight budget and not really having the impact of past tours. The lineup with Lambert feels like Queen, with a different singer, they cover a much wider range of the catalogue and visually the productions have been spectacular. Lights, video and sound have been on a bigger scale and more like the expected scale of the original tours. I thought it was great to see them tour with PR, but I’m still at a loss as to why they ignored songs from the earlier albums which probably would have sat better with his vocal style. I still think the best version of WATC with Paul Rodgers was at that TV awards gig before they announced their first tour, he never performed it like that again.

I tend to agree. I enjoyed the PR lineup, probably partly due to the fact they hadn’t toured for so long, but looking back now with AL fronting the band it seems to be more of “a band” and less of a walk on part for the singer. Definitely a more natural fit. keep in mind that Paul Rodgers was a legend before Queen had a record deal. a marriage between a huge band in need of a singer, and a singer who is a legend in his own right, will always be difficult. one of the reasons, I'm sure, Brian has to point out in every interview what a nice guy adam lambert, is that he is VERY likely not one to stand up to Brian or Roger. lambert won the lottery when he was taken under their wings, and I'm sure he knows that damn well. he is never going to bite the hand that feeds him.Paul Rodgers didn't need Queen. As much as I'm sure 2005-2008 made him quite a lot of money, Queen was never his golden ticket. The fact that Paul was Brian and Roger's equal probably made the project more difficult. I'm sure working with lambert is easy, as I imagine he does what he told, basically. I'm sure they ask for his input and opinion, but at the end of the day, he is one lucky employee. I agree, that Adam is kind of a lucky employee, although he’s more than that in regard that he can’t be replaced on the QAL tours. Just like Brian and Roger. Everybody else could be somehow replaced. Even if that would be complicated with Spike. But I think you’re underestimating Adam. Yes, he would be an idiot to run away from QAL and I can’t see it happen. BUT he did leave 2 labels due to differences with these labels and what they wanted him to do. This shows that Adam hates to be told what to do. He has even said exactly these words more than once. He also said, that he would have done exactly what Brian and Roger had told him when they started to work together. After all they are Queen. BUT he was more than happy that they had asked for his input from the very beginning and gave him the freedom to take their songs and sing and perform them in his way. While Adam was aware of the huge task to give their music justice and therefore he decided not to change the songs too much and sing them close to the original. This way it worked for all of them. In my honest opinion Adam would have walked away from this collaboration, had they just told him what to do and not gotten on as well as they do. But Roger and Brian are smart enough not to press their front man into a corset. It has already worked with Freddie after all. Another point: I think that Brian`s, Roger`s and Adam`s personal egos are a reason, why QAL never recorded new music. We know that the four members of Queen often fought hard in their recording sessions. Brian and Roger are somehow like fire and water, not easy to find common ground on new songs. Then throw Adam into that mix and it gets even harder. This could backfire and put stress on their very good relationship. They tried it and left it by that. They will have their reasons.
