Create your own dream Queen setlist! Here's mine - I've taken out some long standing standards, but I think this is a good balance of older and later material, and of hits and album tracks. Obviously this is a 'dream' so there's no 'rules' as such, but there's no point making a setlist that's five hours long, and it does need to 'flow' as in a concert.

That is a very impressive set list indeed ,with some great songs that have never been played live before, I am still working on mine. The cream of your list is in my opinion -Innuendo-Breakthru-Flick Of Wrist-Long Away-I Want It All-It's Late-The Show Must Go On. It's got a great balance and the thing about it ,is it could have been done . However "Brian" and "Roger" play it pretty safe with the hits set list. I hope one day that Q&AL put on a farewell show maybe at Wembley or Knebworth and include some of these fantastic songs to show the world what a fantastic cannon of songs they have done.

In my dreams I'd get the entirety of ADATR, complete with Shepard's tone intro and outro. Weakest link in there may be White Man, maybe swap that out for Father to Son or White Queen. I'd be totally fine with not hearing The Hits. There's absolutely nothing realistic about this tho =)

Thanks for an interesting thread... Dreams sets are always tricky because concerts take place in time and space. In order to have a dream set list song wise, the gig would have to take place after Innuendo was released, and that is just a paradox in itself as Freddie was no longer able to perform at that point. So my dream set would have the early 80's Freddie in full power, and still all their songs to choose from right til the end. Of course, now I can also dream of visual elements that were beyond the tehcnology of the 80's or 90's but let's not go there.  So, I guess this is my dream set list for an Innuendo-era concert. Maybe it takes place in a little bit more intimate surroundingd, definately not a stadium concert – no matter how great Freddie was commanding big audiences. This is the set list I came up with. Heavy on deeps cuts and latter days stuff that we never got the chance to hear live with the original line up. I only put a few Greatest Hits songs in there – just to keep the avarage joe in the audience interested.  Also, in my dream many Queen traditions get thrown out of the window. While I want to keep the idea of acoustic set in the middle, there will be no Love Of My Life And. Also, NO Brian May guitar solo!! And DEFINATELY NOT the Rock You/Champions finale. I think they kept those elements in their show way too long, and in a way those traditions made their shows predictable (and do I dare t say boring?). Anyway, here we go... I have to agree with you "august", We will Rock You & We Are The Champions has been so over used as encores ever since NOTW came out in 1977 through until 1986 on the Magic Tour. Worse still at Knebworth they put Friends Will Be Friends in between WWRY & Champions for the encores ! In fact although enjoyed the Magic Tour the set list was a bit naff , the rock n roll melody didn't really work except for the end of Tutti Fruti. I enjoyed Freddie's vocal Impromptu because it was so off the cuff. Sixteen singles were also crammed into a set of twenty four songs ! As a spectacle it was great I mean come on Knebworth Park with between 150,000 & 175,000 people there ,Radio Ga Ga with a sea of hands as far as you could see , wow ! Getting out of the car park was not quite as much of a spectacle ! LOL !

They are such good singalong songs and have become the one, sorry two, guaranteed show closers. It would be hard if not impossible to find a better ending. I don’t think Queen have ever fallen into that contact obligation song choice. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen, but it’s usually aimed at older pop acts who haven’t toured for years and are being paid a huge performance fee by a promoter. Think Spice Girls, Steps etc. |
