Anyone watching this? Bloody hell! They're not kidding when they say it's the most violent TV series ever made. Makes The Sopranos look like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, only no one's Happy. Seen the first three episodes back-to-back, and can't wait to see episode 4. Brilliant stuff!

I'm still a tad surprised that the usual suspects didn't complain to Ofcom about the violence levels. Mary Whitehouse must be whirling in her grave.

I have to admit, I felt that it lost a little bit of propulsion after episode 5, but it was still very watchable all the way through. I've got the Bluray so intend to watch it again when I get time. 😄

(That explains my fondness for Lucio Fulci movies... )

I'm not keen on spiders at the best of times, but that did me in! 😖

The scene with the splinter and the eyeball completely freaked him out. He had nightmares about that scene for weeks!
I can't think of any horror films that have given me nightmares, but when I was at university I used to help out at an undertaker's preparing the bodies for funerals, so I reckon that has tended to desensitize me to onscreen gore.

Yeah, the splinter in the eyeball looked quite gruesome at the time, but when you see it now, on a video that's all been cleaned up, it looks so fake it's almost laughable. In many of those films, the acting was more horrific than the actual subject matter.

In many of those films, the acting was more horrific than the actual subject matter. That's so true. I often wonder if those movies that were banned at the time were banned purely because of the woeful standard of acting, and not because of the subject matter and/or the gory content. As you say, the effects in most of those movies were pretty iffy at best, and high-definition formats only highlight their shortcomings. Tom Savini had nothing to worry about when compared to those wannabes.
