Well Brian makes it clear that there's a new sound mix at the very least. We wouldn't have known otherwise. Typical Queen - fuck all 'official' promotion declaring WHY folks should go and see it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc_M7XngY6EI think the phrasing you are looking for is not "f@ck all" but this is all you are going to get so "f@ck you" may be more appropriate. At least you gave some of us a good 2023👍 Did he really say "No backing track" ? So how on earth did they play BoRhap Operatic section if it wasn't played using tape?

Brian's Introduction. If you can't hear him at the start, read the (auto) subtitles until the mic gets turned up.

I just returned from the screening in Eindhoven and I must say I had a wonderful time. Sound was great and it was a fun experience to watch such a concert film on the big screen! It's been years since I watch the Rock Montreal film, so I might have forgotten, but only let down for me was the sloppy inclusion of Jailhouse Rock; a cut and paste job gone horribly wrong. For the rest it was very entertaining, but it never beats a real live experience.

It was indeed a very odd inclusion of Jailhouse Rock. It didnt match at all. Nevertheless a great show to see on the big screen!

Was Jailhouse Rock not included in previous releases? I swear I've seen the footage before.
Queen's cover does nothing for me, so I'll pick this as my bathroom break.

So why they say it didn't match? It is not the same edit just as Rock Montreal 2007? Have they edited JR differently?

Like I said, it had been years since I'd seen the film and I obviously had forgotten about it. I would think that if they have taken the effort to bring this to IMAX, they would have fixed this part. Great analysis on this on Bob's website, by the way. www.queenlive.ca/Anyway, I still had a wonderful evening.

Do you happen to recall which songs were before/after JR in the IMAX version? All official releases to date, those which have included it, have put it in the wrong place to avoid a continuity issue with Freddie’s trousers/shorts. These releases put it between CLTCL and Bo Rhap. Per that excellent site, it was actually played live between SHA and WWRY.

It was mostly the visual continuity. Brian was clearly wearing another shirt and it had that 'encore' feel about it. Also I think Freddie lost his Superman shirt for this section and it appeared again on his belt for the next song.
They must have figured that CLTCL and Jailhouse would make a nice Rock'n'Roll section.
I had hoped they would put Flash and The Hero back in this release.

the story in 2007 was that the footage of Flash / Thero is lost
Both nights, complte, would be sensational, but....
on a related note; is an IMAX release of Budapest doable? The official story is that QPL "only" has the master copy of the final edit

The official story is that QPL "only" has the master copy of the final edit My understanding is that they were not filmed, as film had to be reloaded into cameras, which makes sense. Edit: Queenlive says the footage was tossed, which seems less likely than it never having been filmed at all, but it's a respected source, so I may be wrong.

Still VERY nice quality - as opposed to a multi-generational video master - and yes, would look gorgeous projected.

Some cameras will be started earlier/later than others to ensure footage of some kind is shot (staggered). The person who did this for each camera was the 'Clapper/Loader' who is skilled at doing this task very quickly!! Watch the 16 camera Budapest video to see how often - and staggered - these changes are. Compare to video cassettes - like the Beta SP format that Wembley '86 was shot on - that ran anywhere from 60 to 120 minutes. (and we know all cameras were 'iso' recorded).

If you check on A.I images it seems that the program has a problem rendering hands. This looks like that, so you could be right.

That's incredible!
I absolutely hear you on the "fuck all" branding... if i had known the sound was addressed I might have bought tickets in advance. I'm a little under the weather and the nearest supporting theater is very far but I would've done it
It's frightening to hear that A.I. was being used for restorations. Jesus. Talk about not giving a crap.
I was going to post an image joke about the image presented. I just have to learn which img hosts are allowed. Above left and above right of the cameraman
Above left looks like Boba Fett... and a guy at the far right, his entire face seems split at the middle

If you listen to the commentary on the original Montreal DVD I think the director said something about the cameras only been able to shoot for about 3 minutes at a time.

I saw it yesterday on digital "IMAX" from what I remember it seems to be the same edit of the concept as the 2007 version.
The image quality may be good but I just never really liked this concert for some reason.
It's a pity we don't have Live at Milton Keynes from the same era in film quality that was a far superior concert than Montreal in my opinion.

James Cameron is getting his ass handed to him right now on Internet / Blu-ray forums because of implementing AI in the 4k restoration process ("Titanic 4k" and Alien 4k being the prime examples) I imagine Ridley Scott would be pretty cross, too (this is just a light joke, I'm not looking to offend or point-score)

It's a pity we don't have Live at Milton Keynes from the same era in film quality that was a far superior concert than Montreal in my opinion. the 2007 re-release made me fall in love with this concert. the vhs + original dvd had a very weak audio mix imo. Lifeless, really.... 2007 saw that right, and it really showcases the 4 guys pretty much in their prime. Such a treat that it was filmed before they took on an extra keyboard player. now, the edit itself is not ideal in as much as it shows little / no audience, and thus it doesn't really capture the event, like Wembley brilliantly does, and to a lesser degree but still better, Milton Keynes does. The quality of the footage of Montreal is stunning though. I'm curious to see if this IMAX version has done some colour-correction (which was the, imo, only slight let down on the 2007 version; some colour schemes were off), and if the audio mix is even better than 2007.
