One day I was watching concert footage of Tokorozawa 1982. I enjoyed it but unfortunately it is barely under an hour long. I was always aware that the full concert footage was once shown to a select audience in Japan (thanks to Queenlive.ca for clearing that up). So I got curious and asked myself this question:
Does Queen Productions have the full concert footage of Tokorozawa 1982?
The first step that I did was that I checked the Queen: The Complete Works book for any information and found nothing. I then went back onto Queenlive.ca and found out that the select audience were members of a Japanese Queen fan club. So now, I had another question, could the International Queen Fan Club have some information about this?
So I decided to write an email to Jacky Smith about this inquiry and one week later. I got a response from her.
The email I received was helpful but seems to have led me to a dead-end for now. So Jacky told me that she had more than likely asked Queen Productions and was told that they don't have all of the unused footage (So does this mean that Queen Productions has more footage of Tokorozawa?). She confirmed to me that the concert was filmed and edited by a Japanese company. She theorized that the full footage may exist in a storage vault with the Japanese production company. That being said, Queen Productions as of right now, don't have any links with the vault.
As a side note, I also asked her if it was possible that the full soundboard audio of Tokorozawa 1982 exists and told me it was possible but she has no idea.
Queen is no stranger to lost media. As of right now, all of their Top of the Pops performances and the complete Hammersmith 1979 concert has yet to surface.
Let me know what you think or if you have any questions for me.
Edit: a word

so a full audio recording must exist within Queen's vault as two bonus tracks from this gig appeared on the bonus disc of the 2011 remaster of Hot Space. as for a full release of it, I doubt it as the concert was full of technical problems (including Freddie's bad voice) due to the very cold weather at the venue.

"Freddie's bad voice" Freddie was in my opinion in great shape during this concert. There are some moments where his voice cracks but this is only really problematic in Body language (just a few cracks too many). I would love to have this show from beginning to end in pro quality. I always enjoy watching/listening to this show.

or that crack in We Are The Champions. And imo he was not in great shape that day.

And some alternative lines are just so wonderful to hear. I really like it when the not perfect shape of his voice urges him to be more creative. Sapporo a few nights earlier is another such show.

If those two tracks are on the 60 minute edit, they could just as easily be FROM that 60 minute edit, not a multi track of the full show. (I haven't checked)

this is one of the most interesting research jobs as far as Queen live videos go. (together with the lost Budapest reels.....)
The "one night only" screening back then would be great to have verified by someone who was there, or at least have a written account of the event....
The whole gig was filmed, definitely, as what we do have is an edit featuring both the start, middle and end of the show. Question remains, what happened to * the master tapes * the complete edit
somwhere in Japan, someone who had a connection to the production company, must have some info!

(I haven't checked) When Milton Keynes was released it was said by someone from the audio team they have the full multitrack audio from 3-11-1982. Just like Montreal in 1981 and Budapest in 1986 the problem is that Queen Productions have the audio but a different team has the footage... So - sadly - in Queen's archive only the multitrack audio was found when they wanted to release it (again). Only when they bought the rights back for Budapest and Montreal could they work on these releases. Regarding 1982: they probably (and rightfully) consider Milton Keynes the superior show so want that as their definitive Hot Space live product.

What we perhaps need to consider in cases like this is that the recording was 42 years ago. It's not unlikely that those involved at the time may no longer be with us, and any footage may have been lost or destroyed.

Milton Keynes concert (final show of the European leg) and Tokorazawa concert (final show of the japanese leg and the whole tour) were both videotaped and multitracked.
In 2004 QPL (badly) mixed Milton Keynes show using patches from Tokorozawa show. In 2011 QPL mixed three tracks from Tokorozawa for Deluxe Editions.
I think it's time to mix the whole Tokorozawa show using patches from Milton Keynes show and try to find the traces of complete Tokorozawa video and finally properly to release it.

One of my holy grails is the 38 minute film of Rainbow '74. It likely contains the same songs as the Sheetkeeckers bootleg, since it has a similar runtime, so Procession/Father To Son, Ogre Battle, Son And Daughter, Keep Yourself Alive, Seven Seas Of Rhye, Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll, and Liar. Even QPL put out an entire website asking anybody who had it to reach out. That show is one of Queen's all time greatest, and definitely from one of their rarest eras, so ANY footage that comes out of it is amazing.
