Following the strangeness of the covid years, it's been a gratifyingly rock-stuffed 2023. Across rock'n'roll's diverse sonic subtrates, we've celebrated 12 months of albums from new artists, retiring artists, returning artists and reuniting artists.
Between them they've given us some brilliant collections of songs, and Classic Rock's writers ranked The Rolling Stones' Hackney Diamonds – their first album of new material from the band in nearly two decades – to be the album of the year. Two albums from two more big names, Metallica's 72 Seasons and Foo Fighters' But Here We Are, filled the medal positions.
The full list of Classic Rock’s 50 Best Albums Of 2023 is here:

I do listen to new albums, but often not during the right year - I'm still working through a load of the albums I downloaded last year! I also only listen to albums for the purposes of which tracks I might want to extract for my main playlist - there's no consideration of "an Album" as a cohesive whole anymore.
Attention span of a twelve year old....

Attention span of a twelve year old.... Yup, same here. I'll listen to a new album once in full, and sometimes it will all go onto my main playlist, but more often that not, it will just be selected tracks. Occasionally I will even shove an unheard album into my playlist, then realise it's actually quite good after hearing several tracks randomly. My trouble is, my playlist is now very nearly up to 5000 tracks, so it does take a while to get through them all.

I definitely listened to the Stones, Def Leopard, Pretenders, Alice Cooper and Metallica albums.
Extreme, Ian Hunter, Danko Jones, Those Damn Crows, The Defiants are in the queue.
The Answer, Black Stone Cherry not sure which of the above!

I have never liked the best of any kind list. It was always a tool for record companies to promote their artists. The list is well spread among the three major lebels and their sub companies.
For example when Queen announced a tour, they get a front cover or any member or album gets on best of list in a music magazine.
While Rolling Stones or Metallica albums are very good, these albums are not the top of the year. They are very good for their standards compare to their last few outputs.
Its like giving an award to legacy artist as best band... Does it really needs it?

The Answer, Black Stone Cherry not sure which of the above! Of those, I loved the Stones album, and Ian Hunter. The Def Leppard just seemed like an extention of their last album, and not particularly memorable. Got halfway through 72 Seasons and realised I didn't really like Metallica any more.
