Hi all. This below is a review of the album 'Jazz': written by Steve Gett and titled Bum's Rush, it was published in the English music magazine Record Mirror on 25th November 1978.
Gett greatly admires Queen and praises their first albums 'Queen', 'Queen II' and 'Sheer Heart Attack', but maintains that in recent years the band has produced material that is not up to par; he doesn't like the new LP, apart from the two Roger Taylor songs ('Fun It' and 'More Of That Jazz') and Brian May's 'Dead On Time'. The score assigned to the album is two and a half stars out of 5 ('give it a miss' following the legend next to the title of the article).
Enjoy the reading!

Ironic that he cites Fun It and More of that Jazz as standouts as it seems with most fans those songs are listed as the worst on the album. Roger himself has said he's not proud of his contributions on this album.
Having said THAT...personally I've always LOVED Fun It. The sinewy groove and Freddie's backing vocals are great. Granted, I am one of the few that loves Body Language as well!

'Fun It' is a good track...'Jazz' is a particular album for me, and my favorite tracks of it are still 'Let Me Entertain You' and 'Dead On Time'.

I’m a fan of the Jazz album, but I’ve never understood why they gave the production job to Roy Thomas Baker. The previous two self produced albums sound so much better and I don’t think RTB was able to bring anything new to the sound at that point, and in some cases sounded like a backwards step from what Queen and John Anthony had achieved.

I've always love Fun It - there's a really cool groove to it - and Roger appeared to be a couple of years ahead of the rest of the band in this respect. MoTJ is a nice tune too. I'd go so far as to say, that even before Roger was the main hits contributor in the 80s, his song-writing from 76-80 was really good, he turned out some belters: Drowse, SHA, Fight From The Inside, Fun It, Rock It (Prime Jive) and A Human Body are [IMO] among the band's best output of that period.

The production on these albums is really nice - and the debut Cars LP has a really nice crisp drum sound.

I seriously wonder if that whole recording session was a coke fuelled party. Some of the ideas were brilliant but the way they were recorded and mixed is questionable.
