Interesting artifact! I’ll have to make a playlist to see how well the two sides as written would’ve flowed.
Also, auctioning off an auctioned item? Is that common? It seems a little weird to me, but I guess once it’s purchased you can do what you want with it…

This is really interesting! I'd love to be able to know what kind of date this would have been around. I always guessed that Brian's songs (Brighton Rock, She Makes Me, Now I'm Here and Dear Friends) would have been recorded near the end of the sessions due to him being in hospital while the rest of the band got on with things, so it's interesting that three of those songs are on here (suggesting that Dear Friends was indeed a late addition?). Also that Lap of the Gods is denoted with a "I" but there's no sign of Lap of the Gods II.

The Brian tracks *could* have been started in the Queen II sessions (NiH excepted of course), so known to be strong enough for Queen III. She Makes Me & Dear Friends could even have been finished. Edit - Brian has said that Brighton Rock was held back from Q2, but the presence of JD on acoustic suggests SMM was at least re-recorded for SHA (Brian in hospital, so JD plays more guitar).

Good points. Still, I've always assumed that Dear Friends and She Makes Me were written while Brian was in the hospital and are reflections on his state of mind during that time. He's talked about how he was worried that the band were going to replace him, and it's easy to interpret the songs as being related to those fears.
