The Works: 40th Anniversary Merch Range
With the 40th Anniversary of Queen's classic 1984 album 'The Works' coming up next week on February 27th, check out the new celebratory merch range in the Official Queen Online Store. The range includes a new sweatshirt, Radio Ga Ga charm and T-shirt, plus the album is available on vinyl LP and CD.
************* That's the official gab *************
Now that the site is back UP... it's pretty disappointing to get this and no glimmer of a 2024 re-release at least forthcoming with this announcement of some really bad - 'local printer' level T-shirt and Sweater combos....
Not even a re-release of IAHL picture disc (which I have).
Just kinda a let down
Thoughts?
Apologies if this wasn't news worthy.
I fail to understand how QOL thought it was email worthy

queenonlinestore.com/Just another chance to flog overpriced merch. To state it's "The Works 40th Anniversary" and not produce anything new to commemorate it (other than the aforementioned tat) is appalling, but sadly, unsurprising.

While the album cover was done by a "historic" photographer. Making it as a T shirts and other kitch stuff is the worst. The last years they created very bad executed YouTube series, instead of making real good small documentaries about their anniversary albums speaking about music not recycled stories.
I guess that's the prize in major record deals. Less trying and easy profit.

Freddie was an aesthete so I guess he would hate the way that these merchandise have been made. And it stinks of laziness to high heavens. Couldn't they choose other group photo (even something unreleased/unpublished before) for the t-shirt project. CD.... it's nice that it looks exactly the same as the 1st CD physical release. The term used by them "Remastered STANDARD edition" gives some hope that some expanded edition will make its way... Still, no announcement of boxset with live show is very very disappointing. After all, we're talking Queen reaching the commercial peak here during the "moustache" era .

If they'd created a special 40th anniversary slipcase, I would have bought the same releases again. Now there is really nothing new for me...

This really annoys me! QPL literally forces us to listen to bootlegs and audience tapes. I don't mind because they sound a hundred times better than the official release. But even so, it's a great shame that they screw up the fans. Instead of releasing something full-fledged, they present us with materials that we already have on our shelves, with the only difference being that they are remastered. At the same time, they sound worse than the releases from years ago. I'm tired of it. Fortunately, we have a wonderful community of people who have the effort to find new materials, god bless you.

How they have handled Anniversaries has been different for each album, it seems.
I recall we got a Picture Disc and merch for Flash Gordon & The Game (and possibly Jazz?). Some merch for Hot Space & it looks like the same for The Works. Not even the Picture Disc for the last 2 anniversaries.
Not holding my breath for any Works boxset this year.

The clothing is butt ugly, I would have been interested in a nice Works t-shirt, but this looks like an eight year old's first try with Photoshop. What is wrong with these people? Doesn't greed work better if you make something that people actually want to buy?

That's what passes for "range" these days? One design on a t shirt and a sweatshirt. No mugs, no keyrings, no phone covers, no usb sticks, no coasters, no towels, no hats, no scarves, no slippers, no jigsaws, no pens, no bags, no mouse mats, no stickers, no badges, no glassware. For a band with such strong visuals, their merchandising is utter bilge - and a massive missed opportunity in terms of an additional revenue stream.

No can do ... creating that stuff takes more than lifting one finger, and QPL can't be arsed with such an exhausting endeavor ...

I think it would have made more sense from a commercial perspective to do a Works box set instead of the lesser known Miracle album among the general public.

Instrumentals, Instrumentals with backing vocals, demos, surround sound mixes (especially now that everyone is getting on the dolby atmos bandwagon - heck, even Wham's two albums are out in dolby atmos now!)

Lazy and uninspired, another missed opportunity. They could have easily produced a semi interesting anniversary release of the album with minimal effort. Why not give us; Demos of the album tracks such as Radio Ga Ga before Freddie reworked it All the tracks we know we worked on during sessions that appeared on solo releases etc in their demo/work in progress versions (Let Me Live, Man Made Paradise, Man on Fire, LMIYHA, Love Kills, TMBMTLTT etc) I Dream of Christmas - no doubt Brian had a demo version he presented to the band for consideration Some interesting live tracks from the Works tour

Actually, in Scotland, we'd refer to it as Guardianship (although still deputyship under the mental care act) But I can't be arsed looking after the old farts, so I guess someone in England or Wales would rather apply. Unless a US conservator is more keen? It's all more or less the same. Just different wording.
