Just picked up a 7” US pressing of Killer Queen backed with Liar, dated to 1983.
Anyone have any idea why the track was reissued, and why with the B-side?

Part of the Elektra Gold Spun series released in Canada and the USA. Included some singles from Queen to Hot Space:
Killer Queen / Liar Body Language / Calling All Girls Under Pressure / Body Language Crazy Little Thing Called Love / Bicycle Race Crazy Little Thing Called Love / Play The Game Bohemian Rhapsody / You’re My Best Friend We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions Another One Bites The Dust / Keep Yourself Alive
I may be missing some more.

yep, i had that KQ/Liar 7" around 40yrs ago. IIRC it was the one with a complete shedit of Liar - an absolute carve-up that Coronation Street's butcher Fred Elliot would've been proud of

Awful edit of Liar! Is it the same as the original single edit from 1974?

Awful edit of Liar! Is it the same as the original single edit from 1974? well "Spun Gold" were effectively reissues of previous 7" releases - quite often a "pairing" of previous A-Sides the 1974 "electra" version clocked in at 3m03s - EK-45884-A the 1983 "electra spun gold" version was also 3m03s - E-45080-B so, yes...same version
