everyone loved/loves Fatty's Freddie Diaries, but.
i've managed to recover/retrieve almost all of them from old archived versions of QZ. so: ► where would we stand with re-posting them here? ► can we do it? ► do we need permission - if so, how? ► is there a demand to see them all again?
views/answers please

I remember reading some of them, but I've no idea who 'Fat Freddie' is. Is he still active on QZ? If not, maybe a PM via QZ would still reach him via email?
I think it would probably be OK to copy his posts, providing it's clearly posted here as a "quote", and the source link is provided. I think it's a bit of a grey area, but the fact that the posts were made on a public forum kind of makes them public property. All he could probably do, if he saw them and didn't want them here, is request that they are removed.
Maybe they could be placed here in a special 'Archive' board, possibly as locked topics, and only viewable by registered members?

His posts are absolute gold! Please keep on trying to preserve them and transfer them here I do have a copy of "The Fatty Files", his old website. I suppose this is also accessible through archive.org, but I can provide it nonetheless. There is a @cableinet.co.uk email address in the home page, but I guess he abandoned it long ago.

Didn't fatty have a book out many years ago? Maybe it's possible to get in touch with him through his publisher?

I for one would see to them and if they do get posted here then probably on their own post or maybe even their own board here. it would sure get more use than some boards here already

I can't imagine he'd give two shits if it was re-posted. He'd probably shake his head sadly at the continued interest in some off the cuff ramblings from 20 years ago.

Fatty's works were hilarious. He was absolutely off his fuc**ng rocker, but it was genius.

I don't think legally you need permission with public message boards, as long as you are clearly highlighting it's not your work and is from another site and correctly credit it to Queenzone user Fatty with his work in quotes (The Daily Mail often lift whole threads from Mumsnet as 'news'), but certainly it's the respectful thing to do.

Not a lawyer (and this is not legal advise), but you need to check your country's copyright laws.

No need to check, emrabt is right on this. And if Fatty ever objected, I'm sure it would be respectfully removed with no hard feelings.

I would love a section where we can share and discuss the golden oldies/classics from QZ. The sharing of the Houston 77 video for example.

Prior to the video being made widely available, I remember the mp3 audio being shared on QZ. It was actually the first torrent that I ever downloaded. This would have been early 2005 maybe? I remember trading for the video, the bad transfer with the green tinge not long after. And the the good quality version with decent colours came along a year or so later if I remember rightly.

I had that video in the late 90's/early 2000's (my memory ain't wot it used to be lol) and it was horrendous. I marvel at what we have now, and the improvements that guys like CM can make on things. We're absolutely blessed and rich with awesome material, and we still want more!

Fatty's real name Im pretty sure was Scott Simpson and he did have at least one book published which was this one

I would imagine that it should be ok to post his stuff here as he originally posted on this stuff on a public forum. As for the link I mentioned, mine actually links to the Queenzone thread that i saved as a favourite years ago and it still works as I checked it last night. Such a pity I didnt do that with the rest of his stuff. Very funny guy he was and probably still is.

Posting links to the web archive from a post will be good as a temporary solution, whatever is on the web archive, stays there forever.

In this current era of political correctness, is reposting Fatty's diaries such a good idea? Fatty was hardly the epitome of respect, and some of his posts could be considered offensive and abusive ... such is the nature of satire ...

I remember the green version coming out in 2004. I watched the video once, but can't count the number of times I listened to the soundtrack. I know that show inside out. Even with all the bum notes I still love it. Mercury slays pretty well every song.

Mate, my memory could be way off. In my head, it was somewhere between 1999 and 2001 but I have never really catalogued anything. What I know for sure is that it was not worth the anticipation lol. I'm so, so thankful for the free shares over the years, and all the amazing work people like CM puts in, making them the best they can be. You're absolutely right, though - audio-wise, it's a great show and I do love listening to it.

Talking of my memory - I'm pretty good with life (and world) events, and sometimes the music or films that were out helps with rough time-frames.
As far as my music collection goes, it's all "roughly" and pretty vague. There's things I think I've had for a year or two and it turns out to be more, and vice-versa.
I've traded with so many folks, downloaded so many things (over and over again as they become "better"), been to too many record fairs and visited so many record shops across the UK, I just can't deal with all the info. I've even chucked out old bootleg tapes, CDRs, VHS, DVDs and VCDs (during a low point in my life) and sold (then re-bought) official items.
Sometimes it annoys me what I've frittered away, and I wish I had catalogued it all!
