As probably some of you already know, Tim Staffel is very active since a couple of years ago. He have a blog, where he share a lot of stories of his musical career. Today he share some thoughts of Doin' Alright. And the corious thing is that he share a little segment of the movie Boh Rhap, where the song is performed. Just before that, on the movie you see a little interaction of Fred with his father. On this segment (which it seems to be a rough cut for Brian and Roger) that segment is a little bit extended, and also, the Doin' Alright performance is different. On the soundtrack version, when the heavy guitars appears, I remember than they used the original guitars from the Queen (1973) record, here, I could listen to a new guitar which probably is the one that Brian recorded for this version and they later replace for the original from the album timstaffell.substack.com/p/still-doin-alright?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email#media-ee794b44-00c9-4126-b4e1-9f368f58ce82

Good catch! I noticed the extended scene but I didn't look out that it was a new record. Thank you!

Amazing. That's another whole take/mix. Tim's new vocals in the bridge (as opposite of Smile's version featured in film), the looped intro, the different chorus (at least another mix). Truly interesting.

Good thing I scrolled all the way down the article - the version of Doing All Right with Chris Thile is fabulous !
Staffell is completely correct in suggesting Thile is "the greatest living instrumental artist."

Looks like Youtube have become strict over the weekend. I've had a message from someone saying the download link doesn't work (which it did when i made the video because I checked it on 3 different browsers, including incognito mode). Now only part of the link is visible and I've been given a demand to either provide government issued ID (they can get stuffed) or build my channel history over 2 months: on a channel that's 18 months old! So I've split the link over two lines, but a simple copy and paste will do the trick :-)

Sadly COVID put everything to an end, but the format of the show allowed Thile to play and jam in every genre of music
