The drum-intro sounds like it was made with VST-instruments on GarageBand. The snare is what I specifically hate

Jeez here we go! It only been announced an hour and already we've got complaints about the drum sound and auto-tune. 🥱

Everybody- I will be working on a "purist" 1973 vocals mix! I am not a fan of the pitch correction, so I'll be flying in the vocals from the original mix I'm close to finished with TNCD and I'll post that on the YouTube section in the forum once it's done. I'll do the whole album as it comes out.

That would probably still be cheaper than Amazon's current price. 🙄 I'd suggest people keep an eye on Rarewaves.com. I don't think they have it listed at the moment but their prices can be very good.

It's strange that there is no promotional video for the press release on Queen's official channel.

Haven't checked Amazon. I ordered everything at a Dutch online retailer, except for the QOL exclusives. It'll save me the hassle for lots of money in case QOL doesn't handle it correctly.

Really interesting mix, I'll say that. Not sure how to feel about the different drum sound but it'll take a little bit to get used to. Didn't realize there was pitch correction though, either it wasn't as major or maybe it was my attention focusing on the drums.
Either way, I still enjoyed my listen, probably the best we've gotten from the recording so far.

It's strange that there is no promotional video for the press release on Queen's official channel. There's a YouTube premiere that'll happen on the 13th for the promo video. Actually found this first when I tried to find the song lol youtu.be/jiNVqhtjyW4?si=ie7lRkYvA0LrLvRd

I wonder why not Keep yourself alive or Liar as a single. Giving exposure to a much lesser known song is a great way to create interest in their earlier material. They have an entire new generation of fans they're marketing to now, post-biopic. Definitely a good decision on this front.

Honestly, these things are never going to be perfect - but all things considered, 5 of the 6 discs have new material on them (43 tracks in all). The fact that we get to hear an hour of unheard studio sessions and live material going as far back as 1970 (with Barry Mitchell on bass, the stuff of legend) is nothing short of incredible.
We can't be looking at things for what they AREN'T - we need to appreciate them for what they ARE. They could have just done a half-arsed album remaster, BBC and Rainbow and called it a day. But this is the first time they have truly curated the archives to create something great.
If they do something even half this good for Queen II, then we're in for a treat.
For those of us who have been into this band for decades, this is a really big deal.
Hands down, this is the best Queen release since Made in Heaven.

This is my (not-so-good) attempt at mixing the 1973 vocals with the 2024 mix. It's not the full song but just 20 seconds.

Yes, thanks! Not in Apple Music yet for some reason. According to the press release seems the whole album will be available in Atmos streaming. It's literally the last word in the press release without further details regarding a surround mix. Very strange. I see this is one of the many highlights of this release. Fingers crossed for a physical release of this and all future albums in Blu-Ray Atmos.

I have to admit, this looks good. Much better than I expected. But it's also very expensive...

This reminds me of the re-recorded version of Barcelona which wasn't very good.
I really don't see the need to re-record classic albums.

This reminds me of the re-recorded version of Barcelona which wasn't very good. I really don't see the need to re-record classic albums. Barcelona had new orchestral arrangements. There are no new parts here - it's just a new mix. That's a crucial difference. It has gone though digital processing, but not a single note of the studio material here was recorded after 1973 (except for the one BBC track from 1974).

I'm guessing TNCD is the 1st to be released because this was the oldest recorded song on the album? This was a mix from the De Lane Lea demo if I remember correctly

I will be putting this and the rest of the mixes that come from this on the YouTube board, but I thought I should share this here as it's as relevant as it'll ever be.
I'm also considering doing an alternative mix to restore the original 1973 snare drum sound. Would anybody be interested in that?

From Greg Brooks facebook page: You can hear ‘Queen 1’ out-takes prior to release… AND meet John Harris… We’re going to premiere a few of the never heard before (outside of the original recording sessions, and band’s own archive) ‘Queen 1’ session out-takes at next month’s (37th) Fan Club Convention in Mablethorpe, England (October 4th - 7th). So, if you want to be among the first to hear such things as Keep Yourself Alive (Trident Take 13), Great King Rat (De Lane Lea Take 1 with Guide Vocal), Mad The Swine (Take 3) and Jesus (De Lane Lea Take 2 with Guide Vocal) AND see John Harris (the original ‘fifth member of Queen’ and their first ever roadie and front-of-house sound mixer), the ‘boy racer’ that Roger dedicated ‘I’m In Love With My Car’ to, then book now. There are very few places left, so please be quick.

Next single will be "Modern Times Rock 'N' Roll".
BTW, it is interesting if TNCD album mix is different to De Lane Lea disc version....

Other than the pointless pitch correction, I'm not being negative, as I think this could be a very good release.
However, from a drum point of view, I'd just like to say that I think The Night Comes Down was a poor choice for the first example of the new remix.
I've never had a problem with the original drum sound on that particular track and I suspect the people complaining about the new drums feel the same way.
The drums on Great King Rat, on the other hand, might be improved by the new drum mix. If they wanted to get people excited, it might have been better to showcase that, instead.

Yeah, I get the need to "improve" drum sound but the way its done on TNCD...sounds horrible to my ear Its a delicate track, so the drums should also remain delicate, light, early 70s in sound. Instead we got a sound of loud chopping, which, as a drummer, I personally hate and it does not suit the song at all. It sounds like they asked Rufus to re-record drums

The dead drum sound was Trident Studios trademark. The Night Comes Down comes from De Lane Lea sessions. They didn't have the same problem with the drum sound.
