In the light of the release of the Queen I box set, and especially the songs from the 1970 show with Barry Mitchell on bass, I was wondering if any of Queen’s first three bassists used to sing back vocals on stage? Was there any comment from them or the band to that effect?

In the August 1970 recoding of Jesus, Freddie said "We were doing our best with 2 mics." That means Roger was singing through one mic, and Freddie and Brian shared the other. So Barry Mitchell apparently didn't sing.

So I went to look at the ever excellent QueenLive.ca website in hopes of finding some info, and I read this in the text about Queen's first gig, explaining how Smile turned into Queen : "The first Queen gig wasn't [Mike Grose] first with Brian and Roger. Tim Staffell had left Smile in the spring of 1970, forcing Mike to join Brian and Roger on little notice to play mostly covers and blues standards at one or both of these April gigs at PJ's, a venue he co-owned at the time. The three of them shared vocal duties." So, since Mike could sing, it's possible he did during the shows he played with Queen.

I went to this excellent blog Queen in Corwall (later It became a book) and found an account of Mike Grose confirming he did sing on their first gig (still billed as Smile). queenincornwall.blogspot.com/2010/06/mike-grose-queens-first-bassist.html?m=1Cheers, Ogre-
