Curious to get a compiled opinion from Queen Chat for those who bought the box set...

I thing Queen I box worth it but i could be better: For me, the remix, the demo and the queen I session worth it. BBC and backing track are useless : we already have BBC on "queen on air" box and I'm not a fan of instrumental track. Live CD have interessing things (the 4 last songs) but would deserve a true whole live from the 73's era (not Live at Imperial College because it doesn't sound so good). It miss : Keep Yourself Alive (Long Lost Re-take) Liar (US Single Edit) Liar (John Luongo and Gary Hellman Remix) Son And Daughter (Australian Censored Single Version) Silver Salmon Polar bear

I bought it and it was a okay release. Especially 4 live tracks and the Queen I sessions were the highlights for me. Other than that it was nice to hear the De Lane Lea demo's in amazing quality and to hear the album in another way was nice for a change. I didn't care that much for the instrumentals and the BBC sessions. We had the latter already through the On Air release.

I like the remix a lot, I prefer it over the original first pressing and subsequent remasters.
The sessions are wonderful music experience and of course the instrumentals.
The instrumentals reveal melodies, sounds and details hidden under the vocals. I always love them.
I wish for Queen II include instrumentals and vocals only tracks. I love to hear MOTBQ, TFFMS, Nevermore and WQ vocals only versions along with instrumentals. Ofcourse sessions and remix.

Silver Salmon: recorded for the NOTW sessions Polar Bear: probably not recorded during the Queen I sessions - possibly, but uncertainly, dates from QII/SHA period. For the record: I bought the 2CD and that was totally, undoubtedly worth it.

Thanks for your appraisal of the 2CD issue; I'm planning on buying it myself.

Thanks you for your précision.👍 I didn't know silver sallon are from notw session. I know 'Kya Lost retake ' and liar mix are not from 1972-1973 era, but it would complete the record logically.😁

It wasn't worth the money. These deluxe sets are WAY too expensive for what you get (or don't get!). There really ought to be TWO discs worth of sessions at least and books full of information like the Beatles sets - AND proper surround mixes, not shitty atmos streaming that sounds more like the stereo upmixes I was making 20 years ago!

I decided in the end just to buy the 2 disc version which I thought was well worth it , I already have " At The BBC " & "On Air ." I don't have a turntable so the vinyl would be a waste of time and I must have around fifteen coffee table style books with enough photos of the band for me to look at when I want to as well as many books about Queen to read . Some I still have never got around to reading yet. I get the it looks nice but for over £150 , it was I think rather over priced in my humble opinion .

I'll let you all know my thoughts on the set when it eventually arrives..!
I did the QOL pre-order, which was dispatched on the day of release. Unfortunately I'm in Australia, which means it's probably still in customs. Apparently arrived in the country nearly 2weeks ago so surely can't be far off.
I have images in my head of customs officers having a great old time listening to my boxset before they decide to let me have it..!

I got the 2 disc set, The £20 I spent is worth it just for the sessions disc, the remix is a bonus.
I've listen to Queen 1 more in the last few weeks than in the last 30 years because of it.

Silver Salmon: recorded for the NOTW sessions Correct. Egads, I remember in days of yore at Queenzone where it was like pulling teeth to get people to listen even slightly critically to that recording, to realize that Mercury's voice was developed far beyond where he was in 1972 and that it was the News of the World era drum kit they were hearing with the timbales. It was an extended period of me wondering whether not anyone apart from a tiny few actually cared about Queen's music in any academic or critical way. The banter on this forum for the past few weeks certainly has clarified that we've long moved on from that. Thank goodness.

I voted Box set and worth it, because I don't regret my purchase.. BUT... I don't think it's good value for money if that's what you mean. In Canada it's hard to get for less than $300 after taxes and shipping costs.
And I wish there had been a surround mix... And maybe they could have been more adventurous with the live selections. And maybe they could have added a documentary and the Hi Def performance videos to the BluRay they would have had in the box for the Surround mixes,...
and then, it would have been not just value for money, but a really great product.
So, was it worth it? yes, because I'm glad it exists and I'm glad I have it but it could have been so much more. The book is excellent tbf, and without that I probably would have wished I'd just bought the 2 cd edition, which I do think is great value for money.

I voted that yes, it was worth it. But I believe the price was too much (almost $300 Canadian) which is crazy to think about - almost double what I paid for The Miracle box set.

Roger has a china cymbal and rototoms, he wouldn't get those for his kit until 1976.

I'm glad I bought the boxset, and all this new content has been an absolute joy and is certainly one of the highlights of my year... But $300 Canadian is too much for what I received, especially when comparing to similar product from other bands. The BBC disc is absolutely useless, the Live disc only had four pieces of new content, and two of them were very poorly handled (I truly mean it when I say I could have done a better job with San Diego 1976's content) The highlight is easily the Queen I sessions disc, which is maybe my favourite Queen release since March Rainbow, but I don't believe it's enough to warrant the price that I paid. The included book would've softened the blow for me if it wasn't found that most of its text was removed before release. There's a few pages that stuck out to me as being VERY OBVIOUSLY designed to have paragraphs of text that were just removed.

Polar Bear: probably not recorded during the Queen I sessions - possibly, but uncertainly, dates from QII/SHA period. Agreed with everything else, but Polar Bear sounds more like it uses De Lane Lea's drumset if you ask me. Certainly not the SHA drumset.

Agreed with everything else, but Polar Bear sounds more like it uses De Lane Lea's drumset if you ask me. Certainly not the SHA drumset. This is a valid point! As someone mentioned earlier, the Silver Salmon '72 myth was busted after carefully listening to the drums. Can we make the same kind of detective work on Polar Bear? Are there any giveaways? How does the leaked Polar Bear demo sound comparing to the Queen I sessions? Unfortunately, I don't have the ears for this job, but I'm interested to learn from people who can hear differences between drumsets, developments in Freddie's voice etc..
