I found some interesting pics from the book Queen Live Tour in Japan 1975-1985 that detailed the equipment used to put on their live shows in Japan in 1976. Added a drawing from a 1979 Japanese magazine at the end. I don't know anything about the equipment, but still found it interesting so I thought I'd share. On the right: Brian's treble booster, a modified Dalls Rangemaster. The circular device in the background, out of focus, is the Maestro Echoplex on/off switch. On the left, a red Foxx phaser pedal. Brian's VOX AC30 amps. Only the lower three have mics in front of them and the rest are backups. The caption mentions that the author saw one of Brian's amps catch fire during Brian's solo show in '93. Top two photos:John's Hiwatt bass amps in 12" Sound City cabinets. Four Acoustic 370 (solid state / 250 W), two Acoustic 301 cabinets. Bottom two photos: on the left, a PA system by the Clair Brothers, an American company used by Queen into the '80s. On the right, a dry ice machine. Taken at the Budokan in 1976, with John Harris at the helm. Fukuoka, 1976, featuring a mixing console by Universal Audio. On the left, Universal Audio mixing console. On the right, dbx160 compressor/remitter and SAE2700b graphic equalizer. On top of the cabinet is likely a Sony TC-289-0SD cassette recorder. From the top, Clear-Com's CS-200 channel splitter, dbx160, Universal Audio 527A graphic equalizer, SAE2700b. To the right, two Revox tape recorders, with the one on top used as an echo machine. At the very bottom is an Echorec delay. 1979 Japan tour equipment.

Interesting stuff. I'm surprised that they weren't using Clair S4 Cabs on the 1979 tour. But then again I suppose the cost of getting them to Japan would be enormous. Great photos, cheers for sharing.

I'll add pics from 1981 and 1982, despite the thread title. Quality's not great, but it's the best I can do! 1981 Upper-half set of photos: Freddie's Ovation guitar next to two tambourines. Brian's guitars, including a Telecaster he got upon being inspired by James Burton. Stack of Vox AC30s, with four of them with mics this time. Bottom-half photos: John's Precision bass, Fender Telecaster bass, fretless Precision, Kramer DMZ4001 aluminum neck bass, Music Man StingRay. Oberheim OB-Xa. Revox tape recorder, Eventide harmonizer, Lexicon Prime Time digital delay. 1982, Nishinomiya, Japan. Includes Brian's pedal board by Pete Cornish, with harmonizer controls pedals, chorus, treble booster, pedal phaser, echo switch. In the last pic: Yamaha CP-80, Roland Jupiter 8, Roland RE-201 tape echo. Still Nishinomiya, Japan, 1982: Includes Clair Brothers 32-input mixer, Revox open reel deck used as an echo machine, and a roadie's tool case. Anyway, that's it from this book in terms of photos focussing on concert gear.
