So, is there anything actually new or different in the reissue? So far I have only noticed it's yet another louder version of what we already had. Apparently there's a thirteenth bonus track in the Japanese edition "Driven By You (Rock Mix)", but I bet it's just the new / Cozy & Neil version or worse, the old "rock radio edit".
I appreciate that some people find it to sound great, but the original didn't sound terrible to begin with.
What a pointless re-release this was, in terms of extras / new content anyway.

Any idea where it came from that there's a thirteenth bonus track? That would make it two extra tracks as there's only eleven tracks on the UK editions. I had a look on CD Japan, and although the track listing is in Japanese, it still only lists eleven tracks on Disc 2. www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UICY-79738?s_ssid=e461f961104fa731b7And I agree, the remastering isn't mind blowing. It could still use some extra bottom end.

Any idea why the white LP has another inner sleeve included inside? Inside the outer sleeve mine has a black inner sleeve and another, branded inner sleeve.

Now that I've had a proper listen I must say that it's nice to have an opportunity to rediscover Back to the Light. It has to be one of if not the most personal Queen solo album. Reading the liner notes from 1992 and listening to the lyrics you get a sense that this is a man wearing his heart proudly on his sleeve. The title track is inspirational and does an excellent job of setting the atmosphere for the album (along with The Dark). I'm Scared is a tune I often overlook, but it addresses his own anxiety and insecurities, which is something I can very much relate to. Too Much Love Will Kill You is a song I can't relate to on a personal level, but damn is it beautiful. It gives insight into a man who knows it's wrong but is trapped. While he doesn't have the most beautiful timbre in the upper register his passion more than makes up for it. Another song that I've fallen in love with all over again is Just One Life. While he wrote it about someone else, I can't help but think of Freddie. It pretty much sums up how I feel about being in awe of someone that I've never met. Absolutely gorgeous tune that Brian sings beautifully. All in all, it's a great album with only a few WTF moments - The opening jaunty bit of Last Horizon springs to mind immediately. That piece does nothing for me until it slows down and becomes absolutely beautiful. I've always preferred listening to it live - otherwise it might have become my favorite song on the album.
Credit where credit is due. Yeah, I'm not super happy with the extras (aside from the guitar only tracks), but it's one fine album. Possibly my favorite solo offering from Brian.

^^ I consider that to be a very well written, accurate and thoughtful analysis of BTTL and some of the songs within.

Any idea why the white LP has another inner sleeve included inside? Inside the outer sleeve mine has a black inner sleeve and another, branded inner sleeve. This happens quite often these days. Part of it is probably that the inner sleeves get easily damaged while the record is in transit, due to the record bursting through the inner (and sometimes even outer) sleeve. In the old days the record would probably go straight from the factory to the shop (I know it's simplified, there probably was some kind of dealer in between etc), but these days records fly half the world before ending up at the buyer. Some part might also be to inflate the price even further, sure.

I got everything yesterday. Two different shipments, two different carriers. Two nice bills related to customs (in am in Europe).
Was happy to feel the significant weight that the box has (maybe due to BM's signature). It at least feels like you bought something substantial, although the contents are in my opinion fairly limited from both an audio and visual point of view. I was happily surprised to see that the picture disc was limited and numbered to 3000 copies. Didn't know that.

Number 2 on the UK albums chart. Quite impressive. Probably Brians nearly 30 years old album will do better than Rogers new effort.

I received my Japanese Back to the Light deluxe SHM-CDs with bonuses. They weren't kidding when they said it would include a "miniature" version of the '93 tour program. It was so small that it was neatly packed in the digipak, along with the regular CD booklet and Japanese booklet with essay and translations of the lyrics. About 13.5 cm x 10 cm. Still, it was enjoyable.
The B2-sized poster is made of the typical thick, glossy poster paper with sharp images, so I'm happy with it. It's rolled up so tightly though that I can't actually unroll it properly to look at it yet without messing it up.

Is number 2 on the LP charts. Number 7 on general chats. Of course than Roger album will not get that, becouse Roger will not make so much promotion as Brian or all that stuff to selling the record. Becouse Roger releases a new album just for fun, Brian releases an album remastered becouse he wants to be at number 1 on charts and make money of it

I think this album has reached a larger audience than just the hard core Queen fans like us (before and now again with the re-release). Looking back at the charts, it did quite well before and I recall when growing up, a few of my music-loving friends were excited about the release. Some even saw him play while supporting GnR. They were not your typical Queen fans, but enjoyed Brian’s work.
Some here may not be too excited about the release, but it looks like it has been well received. Wether that’s been entirely up to Brian’s marketing or not, I’m not sure, but obviously charting Top 10 is a great achievement.

Well, nowadays is quite easy to get a top 10, basically, all the fans normally buy 2 or 3 different editions, so that counts on the charts and also, on Spain he appears on TV promoting the album, so obvously there's a great marketing behind it, maybe better than whatever product Queen released on the last 5 years or so.

Well, to be fair, I say good for him. He's had a f**king rough year or two so probably deserves a bit of better luck, and at least he's put some effort into promoting it.
I know it's not what we all hoped for, but it's what most of us expected, and we can either take it for what it is, or don't buy it. It's still a bloody good album and it's hard to believe it's nearly 30 years old!
The only problem is, he'll probably replicate the format with Another World, so we still won't get anything previously unreleased. 🙄

But I want to join Roger’s army! (As I’m writing this I realize how ironic it would be for the writer of My Country to form an army, lol.)

Least he’s thanked the Bri-Army - oh he hasn’t he’s probably having a sulk and regretting to release a 4-Track and a mini-disc edition

For me, the remaster is one of the worst I’ve heard from many artists. It really hasn’t enhanced the album at all - the bass guitar (certainly on the tracks where Brian is playing or programmed synths) is still almost non existent, and Cozy’s drums still sound like cardboard boxes and lack any clarity or sparkle (which was often his sound, but also a drum sound Brian has stuck with with John Miceli on his work with Kerry Ellis).
Like everyone else, also disappointed at the lack of previously unreleased stuff and nothing new in the booklet. Do we know why the live version of Back to the Light was excluded?

How bad is the selling records thing nowadays, that a re-release of a Queen member gets number 2...

Can anyone explain what 'Driven By You Two' is? What's the context behind this mix I always assumed it was some sort of outtake, but I don't know if there's more to it. there was a second, shorter ford advert made for TV (presumably the first one was deemed a success) and Brian made a shorter mix to fit with the new Ad.

I listened to the Apple Music version today and didn’t notice a difference – then again, I probably haven’t listened to the album in a good decade, so I wasn’t paying attention to the remastering. That being said, it’s better than I remember it, especially I’m Scared, which was probably my least favorite song on the album. It still is, but it’s gone from “cringeworthy, I’m only listening to this for research purposes” to “actually not half bad”.

I am listening the remaster: my first impression is that they could not enhance the sound experience much, but it was already really enjoyable in the first release. For sure the sound hasn't got worse :)I feel it sounds a bit clearer than before. The main problem of Back to the light first issue was that it was out of market. Good to have a "new" available version with some extra, but we all know them already. And it's a bit expensive. That's "normality" for Queen(ic) productions. As a devote fan, I always hope for something more!

Album went down from 10 to 86 in German Album Charts. A typical "fake" top ten made of pre-orders of expensive box sets (in Germany charts are created not by sold units but by money value of sales).
