Bri just posted on his Instagram about the 28th anniversary of Back To The Light, and in the caption he says:
“Can’t believe so much water has flowers under the bridge since my first full solo album was released. Of course none of my solo material is actually available right now. Anybody fancy a season of BM re-releases with lots of juicy extras ? We’re working on a plan !!! Happy Tuesday folks ! Bri”
This sounds really promising, especially when he mentions it so exquisitely.
What do you guys think? I love Back To The Light and the tour with Cozy!! I’m in!

New album, so with the QPL standards they would be able to afford the next 5 years of no releases and after that a hits release with the only 'deep cut' being It's Late! If they simply dumped his discography on Spotify I'd be happy already. I like his solo stuff better than many actual Queen albums, but I hardly listen nowadays just because it isn't as convenient to listen on my car or smart speakers in my house.
For juicy bonuses I'd happily take live tracks.

Just out of the blue, Brian outright implies that he'll be releasing his rumored box set, which is probably complete but pending some copyright issues or something. Oddly enough, they might have more control over their Queen back catalogue than Brian's albums, which apparently were released under different labels over the years (I don't keep up with those details).
So, if he's willing to act to make his box set happen, wouldn't that mean that The Miracle's box set would be easier to pull off? I mean, it's most certainly complete and they only need to *want* to release it.

I was at the Brixton gig. At the time, it was exciting to hear new Queen songs live (eg Headlong). We had wondered whether we’d ever hear post-Magic tracks at a gig.
Stuff like Love Token went down well live. And of course the Cozy solo was not only impressive, it was a lot of fun for a drum solo at a gig.
I was unable to buy the concert video because I was travelling a lot. It was a generous fan on Queenzone who mailed me a rip of the laserdisc, and decades after that night at Brixton I was finally able to relive this gig!
I’d welcome a re-release in HD and would probably pre-order it the moment it’s available. Juicy extras? There wouldn’t need to be any, I’d be happy with just one juicy entire gig with a couple of audio streams for stereo and 5.1. Perhaps Bri is alluding to the inclusion of the song ‘God’ that was omitted from the original release.
In terms of balloons and other box set gimmicks - what would be good is including the guitar pin badge that I think they sold at the gig. I had a load of my stuff stolen courtesy of a house thief, and wouldn’t mind getting a copy of that cool pin badge.
That night really rocked. I listened to the CD this weekend on a high end sound system. It’s an amazing gig and well worth a realises on DVD and BluRay.

You're right about the Brian box set being a tricky to pull together - due to all the collaborations that span multiple recording contracts and artists. But at the same time there would be gems missing if these songs were omitted.
I feel its incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to please Queen fans when compiling box sets. Yes, Queen Productions have consistently stuffed things up, but as perfectionaist fans we are also unforgiving. Perhaps one approach would be for us, as fans, to practice commenting on what we have liked and why, and disliked and why. It may be easier for Queen Productions to listen if we provide more clarity.
Rogers Lot box set covered a lot (pun intended). I purchased 80% of the box when it was originally released, and I feel the 1st two solo albums were mastered slightly better when released thru the fan club many years ago. I still love the set and I listen to his solo stuff not because I'm a Queen fan, but because I really enjoy the majority of his solo output and all of the the Cross output.
If I were not me, but I were a newer Queen fan who had never really had good quality copied of these tracks - The Lot would be a masterful release. Just fuckin' brilliant.
The Freddie box set was hands down a piece of art. The book and the overall presentation is superb. Oddly enough, the one CD I thought was 'filler' has become one of my favourite discs. I never expected a CD of instrumentals (not Karaoke) to be so enjoyable. This is my naviety. I now look forward to some of the fan instrumental mixes that are shared amongst us fans. After so many years of knowing so much about Queen, I found myself discovering something new.
Many of us fans have rightfully questioned the excessive number of Magic tour DVDs, when there are also perhaps more worthy choices for release. But few of us have stopped to share how good a bonus disc the Wembley Friday & Saturday night rlease was. The Friday night was a rehearsal for the camermen, but the band were much better than the following night. So this release feels like you are in the crowd/like a bootleg. The unproduced feel of the video makes it raw, and the music is on top form. I'm sure a band performs differently if they are conscious they are being filmed for a video release. With that in mind, the most genuine live perofrmance is the Friday night bonus disc.
I look forward to a Brian box set. If not the lot, then I really look forward to the Brixton gig being released so many fans can see, feel and experience what it was like to be at this gig.

I completely agree. At this point, it will be impossible to please some of us. QPL aren't willing to release comprehensive box sets either, so we must settle for specific products for the time being. I don't mind them re-releasing some stuff as long as they provide something new in it as well.
As for Brian's collaborations... too many to successfully compile, but most of them aren't worth the time and effort anyway. If a box set provides a sort of singles compilation and there's some room left to fill, we'll be fine with a few collaboration tracks included in there. Sure, that's certainly quite the collection; but exactly how complete is that though? Perhaps a Phil Collins die-hard fan could list twice as many tracks that didn't make that compilation. I can think of at least a minor one, haha. Then again, as far as solo artists are concerned, Phil Collins is a world-class act with massive commercial success while Brian's solo career is niche-sized in comparison, despite the quality work in it. No doubt Brian could potentially invest the money and even time to pull it, but again, it'll probably not happen because there isn't much worth tracking and including in there, in terms of commercially successful songs that is. If there's a whole CD in his box set of actual collaborations not featured in his main releases so far, I'll be shocked. |
